The number that they called from is not displayed on caller ID.
The message on the answering machine does not contain ANY information about ANYONE.
They do give a "account number" 43-00909 to make it sound like it is some "thing" that is real.
But don't even say "WHO" the message is intended for.
(It sounds DIRE, and looming like death.) Melodramatic...

This is just a general message that is intended to get a response. (Scam)

Registered mail is how "Notifications" are done.
(They threaten to send "Registered Mail"...)(They would have to do that FIRST.)

REAL DEBT requires NAMES, and ALL the INFORMATION that is needed to verify it's validity.

This message is so vague, that it makes a good "BLANKET" to cover anyone it calls.
1-888-782-3451 is not listed as anyone...

Left a number with case number said I had 24 hours to call back before I was served at work or home. But did not say who the call was for and who it was from. Called the number back some firm. However I have seen other sites saying this is a scam call. When I googled the firm can not be found.  So do not give them any info. I think they try to phish info out of you. 😡 not happy getting calls like this.

Scam!!! I have no debts! The message does not even say who the call is for. They just want you to call and leave all your info so they can scam you out of money. Feeling pissed off about these scam calls.

    around.
This is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this,  all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.  One of the tricks they use is to call your work place repeatedly in an attempt to shame you into paying.  They also use the “process server” who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Thank-you for the info. Will be doing this.  It's sad that scams are going to this extreme. This message was so vague. It did not say who the call was for and who the call was from but left the 888 number to call back. When u call back it ask u leave your acct number with name and address. Well if they had that info why would I have to leave it....ugh

You are very welcome!  Unfortunately this is the way some people feel they have to make a living, by stealing.  Modern technology has made it easier, cheaper, and safer for them to do it this way rather than robbing a store or bank.  Welcome to the 21st century!  Everyone's best course of action is to learn their rights and to stand up for themselves.  Once they can't make money this way they will move on.
