- Annoyed| 2 repliesMy mother received a call from this number asking for me. They gave her a case # and call back #. She gave the informatinto me and I called them. Rubin Weismann and Associates trying to collect on a Mastercard that was issued in 1995. I told them I declared bankruptcy and they said since it wasnt on my credit report, it wasnt included in the bankruptcy. I contacted my attorney with this information and he said this was not even remotely legal. He is looking into if for me. Will be back with more information.
- L BellaI reported this and similar a few weeks ago hoping they would stop harassing me then received another call today. He gave his name ( Michael Roberts) and the 888-807-5801 tel.# to call with a case #. When I persistantly asked for the name of his company he finally replied,"The Civil Procedures Division Of California. He then said if I wanted any more information that I would have to call the tel# and give the case number. After asking many times what company is inntiating this so-called summons he said the Law Firm of Rubin Weismann . I asked did he work for them also and he said that he works for many companies. I asked for a mailing address as he got frustrated then Hung up on me. This people are extremely rude and will not give you any information. They harass and use scare tactics using information that is over twelve years old that they may have bought for pennies on the dollar and information they find on-line. I hoping that there can be something done to put a stop to these bottom feeders.

- KyleReesI agree, they need to be stopped and shutdown. The problem is they setup so many front companies that by the time any civil action is taken the companies are shut down.
What I find pathetic is the people willing to work for RW Associates, a job at Mc Donalds is 100 times more honorable. The employees are also uninformed like saying the Statue of Limitations in CA is 6 years on a written contract when it is 4 years. They also make statements trying to sound like they work for an official agency which is unlawful by the way. They use ridiculous titles like "Litigator" when they are clearly not licensed lawyers.
The sad thing is our government is not doing enough to protect us from these type of predator fake "debt collectors", and real lawsuits that can be used to shake people down.
Nothing will be done if everyone simply complains about these people who take advantage of those who do not know. File complaints with the FTC, Consumer Protection Bureau, and your local representatives. I have, if enough of us do they will start looking into these crooks.- Caller: RW Associates

- tnladyI received a call from a paid call service telling me that I was to be summoned to court, but could not tell me why. The caller asked for me by my name from my first marriage. I have been divorced since 2001, and my ex-husband died three years ago. The caller gave me the 1 888 807 5801 number; when called it is the firm of Rubin Weisman. I called but got only an answering machine. I am waiting for a call back, but suspect this is some debt my ex ran up...who knows. Based on other posts, I am anticipating harrassment, and will be prepared to report them, and to contact my attorney.

- KarenI have received multiple phone calls at work from a company telling me to call 1-888-807-5801 with a case number to obtain any additional information. When I called that 888-number, they told me that they would provide me with additional information ONLY if I agreed to pay the amount due right then and there, by phone! Yeah, right....
Today, they called back asking if I was going to be in my hometown tomorrow. Funny, did not have any specific address, just the name of my hometown.

- KarenI just received a call from the 888-807-5801...saying I was being served a summons from Capital One...he gave me this number, told me what I owed, etc. I told him I am not saying anymore to you until I call Capital one...I hung up and called CO and they couldn't find the number, told me that my current card is good- said they didn't sell off their debts like this guy said. He wanted me to pay $512 to cover the debt. I told him you won't be getting a dime for me until I look into this - and I was tired of fraudulant phone calls...he kept telling me they would refer me back to him...I said "so be it."..... they still can't find the number and I find out I am not the only one receiving this call. this guy wasn't foreign, or didn't sound foreign like the other calls I received...

- Maria| 1 replySo I was freaking out about being served...never have been and all of a sudden yesterday, I pick up the phone and a gentleman asks if I am going to be available between 9am and 4pm tomorrow {which is now today}. I said yes and he then continues to tell me that he has legal documents that are civil that he needs to serve me. I asked who this is from and he gave me a telephone number to contact which is the one stated above and the case number. Told me that the envelope has been sealed for my privacy and protection and that if I call the number, they could give me the information on who it is from.
So I call the number yesterday afternoon...answering machine for Robyn Weisman or Rubin and Weisman...barely understand the pronunciation. I left a message confirming my name and address {not worried about the address thing as this can easily be found on line with a simple google search as I have an at home business}. I then start my due diligence as this whole thing sounded fishy. Coincedently at the same time this phone call is coming through, I am currently in communication with a problem client who I could see is capable of probably doing something like this...
Anyways...I then look up the attorney's name. The only thing I got was a Robyn D. Weisman out of Long Island, New York. She specializes in personal injury and malpractice law. I decide to call her number since this company is claiming they are trying to serve me. I have left a message with Robyn and am looking to hear back from her soon. But get this...the number on her website does not match the number given through this server whose number has a Los Angeles area code. hmmm....
So I am going to conclude that this is a scam to get your credit card or bank info to pay off a "debt" or gather personal information such as social and such. I have my own law firm, being a photographer and a member of a professional photographer's association who provides legal services for us. My lawyer said that this too sounds fishy and she has never heard of a process server calling to confirm or set up a time to serve you. It is rare she says, especially if perhaps the law firm is having to pay for every attempt by the process server.- Caller: Unknown
- Alfalfa replies to MariaThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

I called it back and talked to an Ashley who claims that I owe 1600 for a mastercard that I had. I have never had a credit card. She says maybe someone took it out in your name but you are responsible. I can knock off all the fees if you want to settle today. I found no listing for Rueben and Weisman out of Los Angelos at this number.

- Heather RThese people have been calling my dad's house for a few days now. I have no idea how they got his number since I do not give it out and it is unlisted. They state they are looking for me regarding a civil suit with a false case number. I called the 888-507-5801 number and got an answering machine. My dad got the actual number 213-260-9483 from caller id. Called this number and no one would pick up. This is a complete scam. People do not give them any information. If they can get my dad's phone number from no info I hate to see what they could do if you give them a little info. These people told me I was going to be arrested the next day if I did not pay and I told them to come and get me. As of yet, no one has shown up. Hang up if they call.

- MariaI just received a call from 213-260-9483. The lady gave me this number to call saying they needed to deliver a summons to me tomorrow. I'm like WTF? You don't get notice when you are served. They just show up at your door. So I listen to what she said and took down the number. I got online and looked up the 1-888-807-5801. I found the comments from others. I'm glad I did. It saved me the grief of hearing about some old debt. They are really getting slick. Don't call them back.

They will call from 213-260-9483, can't give you info but tell you to call 1-888-807-5801. All these people are bogus and want your credit card info. They have been calling me almost every day and today I told the female that would not give her name that if she called me again, I was going to get the police involved because they are a scam and she said only people trying to avoid their debt will call the police and hang up. I have never in my life owned a credit card and refuse to pay for a card I have never had in my possession to make purchases with. I hate fake and fraudulent people!!! I hope they burn in hell!!!

- katiannaI informed the person I spoke with that I had filed bankruptcy on all my debts. The lady informed me I had to take the paperwork to my attorney, which, is illegal. Since I have an attorney representing me they cannot contact me directly. This company is bogus. I have had one other company contact me in regards to an actual bill I do owe. When I explained that I had filed bankruptcy they took down the information and apologized for having called and dealt with my attorney. That is how I know that this is bogus. If they actually do contact me directly after I infomed them I filed bankruptcy I have the right to sue them for $1,000.00 per instance and my attorney gets money also. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE send me something. I could use the extra money.....DO NOT give them any information or send them money. It is useless. Get in touch with the originating company and they can let you know how to handle any payments on the debt. They would know where the account is currently assigned.

- Memzie 's over it| 1 replyWow, five days before Christmas I get a phone call from a man with a very sexy voice that asked for me by name and wondered if I would be home all day tomorrow. As this kind of thing does not happen to me often I immediately began daydreaming about the look of the man who spoke so smoothly and paid little attention to what he was saying. As I was deciding between sea blue or mahogany brown for his eye color, I realized he was talking about delivering paperwork for a civil suit which immediately snapped me out of my daydream and back to real life.
Although he could not tell me who was suing me, he did have a phone number I could call and a as case number that I could use as a reference . This turned out to be a credit card that I do not remember taking out in 2001 that went from a balance of $120.00 to $2968.00 when they added on late fees and interest. Not so sexy any more.
The only thing I can say about this is that they will have a hard time getting any money from me. I am now disabled and live on S.S.I. and food stamps. My total income is less then $800.00 a month which is a about $100.00 less then the amount of money they wanted as a one time pay off. I will just have to see what happens with this. As for now I can not even worry about it and will see what they say when they call back after January 2nd.. The woman Ashley, did not sound so sure of herself when she found out what my income was.- Caller: ruben and weisman
