Called, left a message, I returned the call and they would not tell me who they were or who had called me. A little fishy to me. I asked them to not call my number again, and remove it from any call list they have.

I got a missed call from this number, upon calling it back, there was a recording saying "thank you for calling GRC..." and that all of their representatives were busy at the moment.

    General Revenue Corporation :: Home
A collection agency specializing in the recovery of defaulted student loans and consumer loans.
    www.generalrevenue.com

From what I could read by "Googling" their 888-843-9002 number, they are a collection agency for Sallie Mae.  If you have a "defaulted" student loan, these people will call you until the cows come home.

You have to pay your Student Loans - they cannot be put into a bankruptcy, so find a way or make a way to pay whatever you can.  My ex once defaulted on a student loan and the collector actually came to the house to pick up the payment - it was ridiculous and very embarassing.

So, bite the bullet and send Sallie Mae the money, not the bill collector.

I have loans from sallie mae, but I am not late on my payments and I have not defaulted. I double checked my loan accounts and they are all paid and on time all the time, so your claim is bogus.

Looks like they are trying to scam people, don't call it back and don't give them information.

I saw a similar # on the Strayer University website regarding GRC... http://www.strayer.edu/federal_financial_aid but in no way do I see it under my school's website. Not to mention the bank no longer handles my loans... the US Gov took over my acct. balance. Everyone should call their Financial Aid Rep from their schools to verify their account status and do some research before jumping to any conclusions.

You must be one of the idiots from this company because, must people with half a brain know that it is illegal for a collection agency/agent to come too your place of residence of employment.

This would be a cause for any amounts owed to be erased by suing the collection agency/agent for illegal harrassment, with a no chance of litigation judgement from the court.

The company calling is calling on behalf of someones schooling.  I owe for school books to my former school and that is why they are calling me.  But as I told the school before I was unemployed with no monies and instead of taking the fees out of my stipend check they billed me, the dumb idiots that was the purpose of the stipend monies.  So as soon as I get income I will pay them off.  (And it is only for under $200.00 dollars, lol, apparently they are that desperate)

Hi Nick,  I actually talked to them yesterday and they're calling me today. They lied and said they help students that are leaving school and reminded me to get a deferment if I needed it so I don't get into trouble when the loans are due. I told them I'm still in school at Kaplan. They said they repre Kaplan but I'll ask my advisor to find out. I think they just call maybe everyone off facebook that shows they go to Kaplan (that's one say) I heard theses agencies get a lot of info off social networks.  I told her mine isn't due yet and I'm going back for masters and I'll file deferment in-between if needed.  I think they were nice because I told her if they're using Kaplan's name to find out students, etc. it's fraud that they better be repr Kaplan Univ.  I'm glad you said who they were because I'll find out from Kaplan myself if they really repr them. They seemed to know who my lender was but fortunately I'm not in default I'm still in school.  So either stay in school or make arrangements is the best way and you have to be in school half time.  I know with the economy the way it is not everyone will get a job right away and when you do loans can be like $600.00 a month. I suggest get a roommate one that doesn't steal your big screen tv.

Right, I think they may be a collection agency phishing to get business and find out more about you and then they probably call student aid to see if they can get it.  Some of our phone numbers are public or they'r getting records from somewhere. She asked for my DOB. They know about us already.  I think they're independent and not with Kaplan or Student Loan place. I think they use Kaplan name or your school name just to get you to call back.

Why are they calling me again today when I gave them info yesterday I'm still in school and I don't owe.  Looks like someone is just trying to make commission for the holidays harassing us. If they call twice in a day after that it's illegal. We can all do a class action suit against them for harassment!  It's illegal for collection agencies to call your family and relatives. It's against the law. It was on the news recently and if they contact you on facebook it's also illegal to get your info and harass.  One lawyer I know from CNN is suing them for that.

That's pretty bad.  Just be sure you pay your present school books because they can withhold your diploma.  Good luck with job hunting along with more than 1/2 a mil looking don't feel bad.  Just don't pick up the phone when you see 888 or 800 numbers and check the vm later then you're not stressed. Be sure to have caller i.d.

I told them yesterday I don't owe any money for school and they said they repre Kaplan University.  My tuition is fully paid and I'm in my last class and loans aren't due until next month and I'm doing a deferment until I get into the masters. They said they help people on what to do so they don't go into default.  From the messages here doesn't look like they're helping very much. Then why are they calling me today? There's no reason. They better not be harassing me for nothing over the holidays. I don't owe a dime.  I'm less than half time but my bill was paid but it's drawndown for later in the month but I called financial aid and it's paid. The school shouldn't allow this. I'm calling 3rd party billing at school and asking who does their collections. I can bet my bottom dollar these people may not be honest. My loans aren't even do. It's like they're preparing for the new Year to make people's lives miserable.  Everyone get after them, don't allow them to intimidate. They're harassing people that don't even owe!

I partially agree with you, however, collection people regularly violate the law.  They don't care because there is no agency that enforces the law.  When you complain you are told it's a civil matter and to file suit... they don't care because they know if you can't afford your bills you can't afford an attorney.  They are not supposed to call cell phones either and FEDERAL LAW (Fair Debt collections Act) does NOT allow any phone calls once you tell them you won't pay/and tell them to stop calling you.  They can only legally send letters after that... How much you want to bet they still call?   These idiots are calling me and want me to give them my dob and ss number before discussing my account with me... like that will ever happen.   They are telling me I am about to default.... However I make auto payments through my bank and they get $125 A MONTH but they can't find it... I AM about to sue.

This number is also used by NELNET collections... that is who is screwing me over.... NELNET

These are calls from Kaplan University.  Evidently, at some point, you submitted your phone number to them because you responded to a request to further your education.  I just received the same call.

Recently got a new phone number, and almost immediately started getting calls from this number. They were looking for someone named Bisharo (couldn't understand last name.) Told them he/she wasn't here and that this was a new number. They promised to remove my number, we'll see.

They claimed to be "Great Lakes (couldn't understand,)" and I assume it was a debt collector. Also called from 209-858-3919.
