- Mad| 1 replyA man calls the house Private Call which I never answer but today I pick up the phone and get an [***] asking for a member of my family. He tried to get information out of me like is the family member at work? Do they have a cellphone #? I asked him what did he want. He never gave his name but stated that he was from McCliton law offices and was working on a case that and gave me an 888 #. I tried the # back to see if it was a real law office and it was not!!!! After I called him back he continued to call my home over 10 times and was a true [***] each and everytime. So now I am working on reorting this # and also having private calls blocked on my home phone.

He said he had an important legal matter to discuss with me because someone was using my social and drivers license number, but that he couldn't give him anymore information. This Don Kelly asked for me by my full name and knew that he was talking to my brother some how.
- Ydani| 5 repliesI received a call from a man stating he was calling from CMG Collections and he was Investigator Marzulli. He verified the last four digits of my SS# and said he was calling in reference to a PDL I had. He asked why I had not repaid the loan and I told him I had some health issues which led to me losing my job. He then stated that if I didn't pay 'today', I would be sued for check fraud and my drivers license would be suspended for 3 years. He would not allow me to make any arrangements and stated that I would end up owing $4000-$5000 on a $309 (balance) PDL if not satisfied immediately. I asked for a number to call him back and he got real irritated and reluctantly gave me this number...888-908-9559. After talking with him, I immediately looked up the company...CMG...on the internet and found all kinds of information about their illegal collection tactics and not being legitimate. By the way, a different number came up on the caller ID, but it did say CMG. It was 716-957-3426. I did a reverse number lookup at http://www.addresses.com, which sent me to http://www.intelius.com and found the number to be located in North Tonawanda, NY. I could view more info about the nunmber because that required a paid membership.

- brokeandfrustrated replies to Ydani| 4 repliesI have also been receiving this call from an investigator Joe Morris. They keep calling my place of work and my phone. They said that they are with M Kalahan and associates. They are threatening to sue me for a payday loan that I am unable to pay. They said the same thing that, if they take this to court that they i will have to pay tripple amount, my license will be suspended, and that they are going to let my job know that I did a check fraud. CAn they really threaten me at my place of employment? Please help me and give me advice, because I don't have $2000 to pay them. The number I was given to call them is 888-908-9559.

- Kriss| 5 repliesMy mother called to say that a man called her from 888-908-9559 and said he was looking for me in regards to money I owed. My fiance called the man and spoke to him. He asked the man to send us something in writing so we could see what the debt was all about. He said that I would be more than happy to work out payments once I confirmed the debt was valid. The man said either I pay the $350 I owe right now or it would cost me $1100.00 to fix the problem. My fiance asked him to please contact us at our number and not to call my parents again. Two days later, my mom called again to say that the man had called my brother's house and told them I owed money and that I was avoiding him. My fiance called him again and the guy was really rude. Told him that there was no payment plan available either $350 now or $1100 later. My fiance again asked him to stop contacting my family and to send something in writing. The man did not want to discuss it. I am not trying to get out of paying my debts, I just want proof that it is my debt to pay. The man has not given out a company name nor any information on his company.

Dear {insert name of collector or company},
I am writing in response to your (letter or phone call) dated {insert date}, (copy enclosed) because I do not believe I owe what you say I owe.
This is the first I've heard from you, or any other company on this matter therefore, in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Section 809(b): Validating Debts:
(b) If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period described in subsection (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.
I respectfully request that you provide me with the following information:

(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) Provide a verification or copy of any judgment (if applicable);
(4) Proof that you are licensed to collect debts in (insert name of your state).
Be advised that I am fully aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. For instance, I know that:
Because I have disputed this debt in writing within 30 days of receipt of your dunning notice, you must obtain verification of the debt or a copy of the judgment against me and mail these items to me at your expense;
you cannot add interest or fees except those allowed by the original contract or state law.
You do not have to respond to this dispute but if you do, any attempt to collect this debt without validating it, violates the FDCPA.
Also be advised that I am keeping very accurate records of all correspondence from you and your company including recording all phone calls and I will not hesitate to report violations of the law to my State Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.
I have disputed this debt; therefore, until validated you know your information concerning this debt is inaccurate. Thus, if you have already reported this debt to any credit-reporting agency (CRA) or Credit Bureau (CB) then, you must immediately inform them of my dispute with this debt. Reporting information that you know to be inaccurate or failing to report information correctly violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act § 1681s-2. Should you pursue a judgment without validating this debt, I will inform the judge and request the case be dismissed based on your failure to comply with the FDCPA.
Finally, if you do not own this debt, I demand that you immediately send a copy of this dispute letter to the original creditor so they are also aware of my dispute with this debt.

- hutchmike| 2 repliesRecieved a call from a friend saying a guy asked for me and was asking if i was availible or if i was late on house payments and other personal info. He told me he went off on the guy since he was rude and asking personal info for no reason. I got home to find the same thing on my asnwer machine. It was asking for me. I called to find out what and he asked for my roomate wich is out of town and he demanded i give him a message that he was going to have his license revoked because of the debt. I told him as far as i know he could not do such a thing in minnesota for a civil debt. He assured me due to New Hampsire law he could. I didnt know totaly so i let him go on. He said i needed to have my roomate call and get it taken care of. I followed up with a call to the MN attorney general and they told me no they had to follow mn collection laws wich nowhere allows them to suspend a persons license for civil debt. So i told my roomate that i called him and let him know what was up. I then searched the number and found this site. I called him back again to let him have it and he started threatening me about my roomate ruining his life and him driving without a valid license. I just went off on they guy and his rudeness and he threatened to call me every day. I told him he better not and words were exchanged. He hung up so i called him again he told me not to call his office anymore and called me loserboy. I laughed and called him agian and told him he better not call daily or i would press phone harrassment charged on him wich he thretened the same thing. I plan to no longer call them but if he does call i will be contacting the police from his area. Also i am planning to file a report with the fcc and either me or my roomate a report with the MNAG here.

- Confused..??| 4 repliesSo i recieve a call yesterday while i was out of my office. I am a debt collector but 1st party.. the guy left a messgae for my employee saying it's of an urget matter and my ssn and DL are in jeopardy..that i needed to call back asap and in response to phone number 1-888-908-9559... so today im back in the office and called. He said i took out a payday loan of 400 from an internet website back in 07 w/ no intent to pay back. I forgot about this, and had problems with my banking institue at the time and was sooo angry that i closed my account. Well he said now that i am going to be sued and my DL is going to be suspended..that i need to pay 700-1000 by the 31st.He was very fast and to the point, he wanted my checking or credit card info to pay this debt. I explained to him that i could not come up with that amount of money, he said i had till noon to make this happen of he has no choice but file on me.. he said i would be supeoned to court.He claimed this company is a Law Firm retained from cashnet.usa (payday loan provider)...I am currently a student of Criminal Justice going on 4 yrs, and a collections rep going on 5 years.. never have i ran across this!! Any advice about his threats?? are they legit?? I do have intentions on paying my debts but he's not working with me, i dont know what to do...adive anyone??

- mommy003I also received a call from an investigator Charles Montgomery trying to collect a debt from cashnet.usa. He couldn't send me anything in writing for proof of this claim which I found odd. Please do not give anyone financial info when they call. It's a FRAUD!!!

- mommy003 replies to Confused..??Hi, I interested in knowing the outcome of your claim. I have the same issue and I need to know my next steps to get this resolved.
Thanks!
mommy003 - Kat| 5 repliesOh no!! Both my parent's got calls from that number looking for me but the number for left for me to call back was different (888) 908-9559. The person I spoke with said he was a claims investigator and said similar things about me taking taken to court for fraud. He was very patient and polite and professional sounding. He had all the information of a past Cash Net USA loan I'd admittedly defaulted on after loosing a job (I was so relieved when he agreed to a payment plan, I thought I was finally getting my debts taken care of). I thought he was the real deal, but now it looks like I may have been scammed too! I feel so stupid! I'm going to call my back and try to investigate further before any damage is done!

- mimi| 1 replyI got a call from 716-957-3846 from someone claiming to be Investigator Owens. Apparently my name had been used as a reference by a friend and this caller was attempting to locate this person. He tried to intimidate me with his aggressive manner and began telling me all this person's personal information and that he was being investigated for check fraud. I immediately questioned him as to why he was revealing this person's personal information to me as it was a clear violation of the privacy act. He just yelled at me and said it was a matter of public record which of course I knew it was not. If he had said there was a judgment against this person he would have said so and that would have been a matter of public record. Check fraud in the investigation phase is never a matter of public record. He seemed even more agitated from that point and continued to rant and rave until I hung up the phone which was only a matter of seconds. I have little patience for a person that is not only in violation of the law but has so little personal self control. I plan to file a complaint with the FTC. I have contacted my friend and given him the information and asked him to file a lawsuit against this company. As most people in his situation he cannot afford an attorney, but is fortunate enough to have access to free legal services. I researched the number from which this "investigator" called and found it to be from the company that goes by the name of CMG Recovery Services, LLC. I further found their corporate filing in the State of New York which has their street address and other information that may be helpful to anyone else wishing to file a complaint with the FTC or a lawsuit. I apologize if any of the following information is repetitive to some prior posting. This is the link to that website: http://appsext8.dos.state.ny.us/corp_public/C ... _results_page=0

- andyI would add to all of the good advice that has been given here that the collection agency is just that - an agent - of the payday loan company. As such, the loan company may be liable for their actions. I would recommend any letters that are sent to the collection agent also be sent to the payday loan company.
Have any of those persons who have sent cease and desist letters or other correspondence to the collection agent been successful in stopping the calls from these cretins?- Call type: Debt collector
