I have had this number 888-909-8081 call my cell phone 9 times within the last hour.  It is a male voice with a heavy accent (Jamaican maybe) saying that he is from the IRS and is investigating me for identity theft and fraud.  I know that his is a scam because I have not committed identity theft or fraud lately.

I have had the same number 888-909-8081 calling me and said the same thing, he can't speak English very good either and he is from the IRS, WOW

I have received calls from this number 888-909-8081 (heavy south Indian accent). Gave his name as Mike Jackson and calling from IRS office in Washington. Said that he has warrents out for my arrest unless I settle the amount due right away. Told me to stay on the line and go to the nearest CVS and buy prepaid FTC cards then he will give further instructions.
I checked with my local police department and they said that it is a scam. I called IRS and confirmed that I did not owe them any money.
Today I called this number and asked Mr Mike Jackson for his IRS Id number so that I can report it to FBI, this is a Federal Scam. He dropped the line so fast.

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

I received a phone call from this man and he asked if I would like to talk to him and pay for the miscalculations of 2011 and 2012 taxes or hang up and have the police department come and arrest me. He also said that I cannot call him back and if I hang up then I will be arrested. I called him out telling him that this is a scam and he started to get very upset.

This man called, said he was from the IRS, couldn't speak very good English and wanted to talk to me  in any language I want. I asked to talk to his supervisor , he put me on hold and he came back on the phone and pretended to be the boss. It's a scam. My wife asked him how much he wanted, he said $650.00 will settle the problem !

I just got same call from this number I told him I was going to call police in him he hung up on me. Yesterday said his name was George today it was ken from i I told him I reported him he hung up . It's a fraud don't give out any information

I received a call from 888-909-8081, the gentleman claimed to be an IRS officer and was harassing me. The call seems to be on VoIP and what I deduced from his accent, the call originated from south India.
It's a scam. FBI and IRS please take notice.

We got two messages on our home number from 888-909-8081, male voice with heavy accent.  Claimed to have charges against "your name and your identity" and if I don't call back he will take legal action.  Claimed he had three charges against me.  Called himself officer Mike Jason or Jackson. First call claimed to be an officer for some company, second call was from IRS.

Yesterday, I received a voice mail on my cell phone from 1-888-909-8081 saying that the call was from David Michael an officer in the IRS. Further the message says that the IRS has received affidavit with my name and identity under investigation of 3 federal charges against me. If I do not call him back there will be legal charges against me.
I know IRS sends a letter if any one has any issue like this. So, first, I googeled this 1-888-909-8081 number and came to this site. Today, I called the number and asked all the detail of the charges against me. The guy introduced himself as Shane Watson, Chief Investigator Officer, IRS, located at 111 Constitutional Ave, Washington DC. He  even gave his  employee id number and also the warrant number. I asked how much I owe to the IRS and he told it is $986 and I can pay it now and resolve the case. I just wanted to make sure who these people are, so I pretended if some body can speak in Hindi or any Indian languages. He told that sure he can help me with a translator in Hindi and Gujrati . After a while with some noise on the background, came another voice.  I think it is the same person speaking fluently and perfectly correct in Urdu. For those who do not know- Urdu and Hindi are almost same in spoken language though the alphabets are different. I my self speak couple of languages, and I am also fluent in Urdu reading and writing. So I could tell by the uses of words and accent of that person who introduced himself as translator and gave his name as Imran, most likely a Pakistani.
After confirming his native language, I asked him how can he do such mean things. We had exchange of some unwanted words and finally he hanged up.
Later on I did call the IRS Media Department in DC and informed about this. They confirmed it to be a scam and told to disregard it. If you want to be alert from such scams go to irs.gov and click on scam alerts.

Yesterday I received a voice message from the same number. He had introduced himself as officer David Michael in IRS. In the message he said they have a warrant against me. I knew this was a scam but still wanted to call and tell them: "You stupid, it's better to introduce yourself with another name!! Or at least practice more to cover your accent!!!??". I've got busy signal when tried to call back for 3 times.

they also call me from 888-909-8081 and 780-568-9565..total fraud setup, I feel bad for the victims.

Over the last two days the people at this line have called my wife cellphone saying they are IRS and we must return call. Warning Signs:

1. Wife received two urgent calls on cell phone from "IRS" saying that we must return call or will be dealt with severely.
2. After I called back, they were hostile, claimed I had an "arrest warrant" and quoted what seemed to be a bogus number. for issues with past taxes and would be coming to my door shortly and take me away in handcuffs.
3. When I questioned them for more information, their hostility increased and became more evasive saying that "letters were sent to me in January"
4. When I asked where their IRS location was, no answer.
5. When I asked for a name of whom i'm speaking with, was given "Michael Johnson" in a heavy Indian accent, something was off.
6. When I indicated that this was suspicious happening 1 day before the tax deadline, they became more and more silent.
7. After being hung up on, I called again, line was engaged.
8. After continuously calling to chase them, speaking to multiple folks with Indian accents, the line was disconnected at their end.

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you’ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

I had an almost similar exchange with these [***] yesterday.

The guy called on my home number & said I have 30 minutes before police arrived to arrest me for having back taxes. After asking some Qs to check if he had any confidential information about me (he didn't) I asked him in Hindi (since I knew from his english accent that he was Indian or Pakistani) how many people really fall for this kind of scam? That got him all upset and he switched to the kind of abusive language he is more familiar with. I replied back suitably in chaste Hindi and he hung up.

These are the worst kind of scums. Report them and don't fall for their tricks.

Know that IRS will never initiate such an enquiry over the phone or email.

I just received a call from this same number. Caller identified himself as from the IRS and said I owed money and he was going to transfer me to collections. I hung up. Caller attempted to call back 4 times after initial call.  I did not answer and no message was left. Definitely a scam!

I got a call about 1 hour back. It looks like this person has been calling for a while now. Even with known telephone number no one is able to catch this guy
