The same thing happened to me yesterday and it’s very annoying to say the least. I tried to have it removed asking Norton 360 online web chat support but I refused their help because instead of assisting me with the problem they spent all my time trying to convince me that I would be best serviced if would renew my subscription which was still good for another 75 days. That to me was more annoying to me than the spam itself. I couldn’t believe they tried to get advantage of the situation to push their product. For that matter I told them I would be renewing my AV subscription with someone else. Now here is how I figured out where it came from in my situation and how I got rid of the annoying spam, it started to pop up right after I downloaded and installed a copy of drawing software called sketch up. They should call it Ketchup. Anyway I used the restored point on my pc I rolled back to the last point I found which was when I installed the sketchy software and things went back to normal for me, hope this works for you also. Good Luck

It seems to be a program running under the name "c:\Program Files (x86)\compare for fun\compare_for_fun_notification_service.exe" and "c:\Program Files (x86)\compare for fun\compare_for_fun_updating_service.exe".

Both of which can found running as tasks, under Accessories -> System Tools -> Task Scheduler

Under the file properties it comes up as "original filename: FileProperties_OriginalFilename.dll", but I can' seem to find this file anywhere.

First thing you can do is delete the directory -
"compare for fun" which is located
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\compare for fun\"

That will definitely kill it for good.  if you want to do more to play it safe, go into the task scheduler by going under under "Accessories -> System Tools -> Task Scheduler", click on Task Scheduler Library on the left and go through the list and remove the two tasks associated with the "compare for fun..."

You can also go through those other tasks and disable anything that doesn't look right.  Remember this, in general you can disable everything but the anti-virus software you're running, and your computer will run fine.  If you're not sure, then disable everything and then run the install program to your anti-virus program and your computer is ready to go.

What I did was remove all tasks by going under "C:\Windows\Tasks\" and just deleting every job there.  The idea is that if we need to update flash or google, I'll do it myself.

Thank you so very much for your information.  I went into the Task Scheduler and deleted the two programs with the name on the pop-up.  On my pop-up it said "dr games".    That's just a suggestion to someone with a different name on their pop-up than you and/or I found.   BUT IT WORKED!!!   I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!   THANK YOU!!!

Thanks for everybody's help. On my computer, this was showing up as "quiz games", but I was finding it in the same places as listed above. No idea how it got onto my computer, so I can't help there.

We were following their instructions for how to look for reasons that Outlook might be running slow.  The end result of following their instructions, our computer was in infected with a virus.  When I called the number, the person told me I didn't understand and would need to pay to fix it.  Told me I broke it!!!

It appears that they lead us through a process to put a virus in our computer so they could charge us to fix it!  When I asked, "Do you actually work for Microsoft?" the person hung up.  Had to buy new computer!  Per Best Buy Geek Squad...the amount of virus, etc. was crazy!!!
