"Eric" called about my son and something about his checking account at a bank he never had an account with. He had some personal information and was extremely rude.  He called back again and said he was "David Jackson,  would you like me to spell that for you since you don't seem that intelligent".  I've Google the number he called from and it states it is not a valid number.  He said he was calling from PDL, when I looked up that company, I couldn't find anything on them.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

These people have been calling my mom looking for me on and off for about a year. I did have an internet loan, when i was young and dumb, but it was paid off not long after I got the loan. And actually they took more money out of my account then they should have and when I called them about why they were still taking money out of my account they told me because I had to call and tell them to stop. So at that moment on the phone I told them to stop taking the money out of my account. Here it is 6-7, maybe longer, years later and these people are getting in touch with my mom and telling her all kinds of stuff about how I owe money and legal actions, and blah blah blah, freaking her out. I consulted with an attorney friend of mine and he told me that if I tell them I dispute the validity of the debt, then that HAVE  to prove that I had a debt and it was never paid. When I did, they failed and refused to prove anything. Now they have come back calling again and another time called my mom looking for my dad. My dad has never taken out a loan, anywhere. My mom figured they were just trying to get the money that I supposedly owe them, but the case numbers DO NOT match up. Sounds like a scam to me.
