The id said "out of area" but the number left on the vm was 888-996-9908

Office Mgr. received call asking for me by name and also asked if I was in the "field" which means they know our business. Not sure if I will call back. But Rudy Collins left his name and the 888 number.

Called sounded legit. Called the customer of ours that he "says" he is representing they had no idea about any of this. This is a scam!

Called us again today to see if we had put any thought into there call from yesterday. I told them we spoke with our customer and they had no idea who they were. THey said they will call him and check into it. LOL, havent heard from them yet!

Received a call from a John Baker, saying he was with Baker and Edwards, he said his client, whom he didn't say was, has thought about there complaint against me and are willing to offer me a one time settlement offer, at a discount. And he requested I call him back...Now who offers a discount on a settlement, most people want what is due if not more,,,Hmmm who is this man? He didnot say what type of firm he was, or if he was a lawyer, nothing.

Did this person say that his name was John Baker, and is he acting as if he has some kind of a suit against you???

I received a call from this company who through implications sounded like a law firm and spoke with a Marshal Baker. I assumed he was an attorney and proceeded to work with him on settling a case I had against a local contractor. After discussing the case as if I were speaking to an attorney he advised me, just as an attorney would, that I should settle on an amount that I had already been offered through a different attorney, and stated that it would cost me thousands to pursue the full amount and that I may not win in court because of the contractors history with lawsuits. So far sounds like an attorney doesn't it? Because I could not afford the legal route and he advised me the same as my other attorney I felt that getting that amount was better than zippo. I repeatedly asked him if he was going to charge me on the small settlement amount since we did not seek the entire amount due, and he verbally answered no. Thinking I had an attorney working on this I felt that collecting the amount from the contractors attorney through them at no fee would be a solid idea, and had the attorney send the funds through Baker and Edwards. This check was sent to them in October 2008 and I have yet to receive any $$ as of February 2009. After being told that the full amount would be mailed in November it never arrived. In December 2008 I was told again the same amount would be arriving soon, nada. In January they claim to have sent that amount to my P.O. Box then changed their story that it was mailed to my personal address and still nothing, "Don't understand what happened." Now they are claiming that they are charging me 25% and that I would be receiving a check for an amount which equals  less than what the full amount minus the now 25% fee should be. I don't know maybe my math is wrong, and it isn't, I suspect this company is trying to doop me again. Needless to say I feel ridiculous for intrusting this company over the phone and would advise anyone to proceed with caution and do your due diligence. They are supposedly working on getting me the full amount mailed out again as of February 11 2009. I may have to file a complaint against this company in Sunrise Florida and talk with the attorney who sent the $ about what legal recourse I can seek. Posing as an attorney is against the law and I will not allow something illegal to continue if it hurts others. I will only use a local attorney in the future to avoid feeling "suckered" the way I do today. I will keep you informed with the outcome to be fair to them and consumers. After all I am a business owner and understand errors do happen. I'll keep my fingers crossed, say a prayer, but I will not be holding my breath.

Before doing biz with this company do your due diligence and get something in writing. Also use the number 1-888-996-9908.

It is February 27 and I have yet to receive a check. They also are charging me more than there 25% and claim they will send the difference sometime later. Maybe I'll see $ before X-mas? I will pursue further action and report them to Comsumers Affairs. Something is really wrong with this company and I WARN STAY THE F AWAY FROM BAKER AND EDWARDS!

STAY AWAY FROM BAKER AND EDWARDS unless you think that it is normal practice to wait months for your $$ and need to beg for them to send it. Just stay away is what I recomend. BAKER AND EDWARDS dooped me and just may do the same to you. Be warned!

I too was scamed by Baker and Edwards. I never got my check and they tricked me into paying a percentage of it that was way to high. Marshall Baker, or whatever his real name is who called me.

I got a call from Robin Adams with Baker & Edwards stating that they had a pending lawsuit against me.  She said I needed to call and it was very important because it was going to litigation.  This made no sense to me because I thought if I was being sued by someone I would have received notice from the courts.  When I called the  888 # I just get voice mail.  This had  me very stressed out!  I'm glad to know that this is a  scam.  I actually gave them my home # since they were calling me on my cell and I rarely hear it ring.  I would like to know if anyone knows who to report this to!

I work for a small business in Cleveland, OH, and we received a call from "John Hughes of Baker & Edwards in Florida" offering to help us collect unpaid debts.  He gave his number as 888 996 9908, and stated that we would not incur a fee if a debt was not collected, and that if we did collect, we'd be charged 1/3 or less.  I didn't find the firm in the Martindale lawyer locator (http://www.martindale.com/), and the site I found (http://bakerandedwards.com/AboutUs.html) looks questionable.  There is a D&B record for a company called Baker & Edwards, but it's in a different part of Florida as the address on the website.  We are planning to continue using our longtime collections attorney - this doesn't look legit.

How do you report to the consumer affairs this company , they took my money too and probably I never going to receive it.

It is now March 26 and I still have not received my $$. I feel like such a dumb ass. My family really needs this money which is something I earned. I am going to report it as to the BBB and Department of Consumer affairs and I am going to write a letter to my local Comsumer reporter to see if they can do something about this. THEIVES! STAY AWAY from this so called company!

i think all of you should get together and file suit against them.  crunch em, hit em where it hurts, put'em out of business.  lets do it to all phone silicitors and scammers...forced extinction!!!  thats two species the world CAN live without!!!  yes, we have gotten the calls too.  my boss is dealing with it as best as one individual can, but high up legal eagles hear many voices better than one.  so do the losers who are harassing and conning people out of money.  unite and get your money back...even if it is to keep you quiet.

This is the Baker & Edwards scam game. They pose as an attorney. They fast talk you as if they can get positive results. The scam is, they will always settle for a much lower amount than is owed to you.
They will put it in writing and send it to your debtor without your permission to let them off the hook. Then they will get the debtor to send the settlement check amount to them by wire or check.  They will never send the money to you. They are not concerned about collecting the full outstanding debt. They are only into it for themselves to get as much of a settlement as possible. They have no intentions on ever sending you the settlement money or any money.
Report them to the Florida Attorney Generals office for faking to be an attorney.
