- Richard| 4 repliesThis is the infamous Windows Company scam. I've heard this script too many times before & didn't have time to mess with the guy tonight. Hang up. They try to get you to connect your PC to their website so they can either steal your info OR so they can install malicious software on your PC. I'm not sure which & it doesn't really matter anyway.
By the way, the "Call Type" should be "Scammer", but that isn't one of the drop-down options.- Caller: "Windows" Company
- unknownThey called tonight and said my computer was sending messages to their database pinging malicious software. I asked how they knew if it was my computer and they said my computer when online has a distinct code and that is how they know it is mine. I then said I don't own a computer and they hung up on me.
- Caller: technical support for my computer

- cris replies to DeannaI just told this guy that I was reporting this number and reporting him for his scam and to stop calling me. So far so good, no calls. But this scumbag was calling me every few minutes trying to tell me his pitch. I kept hanging up on him until I finally looked up this number and found this forum!
- NBCalled yesterday and today and doesn't leave a message. Getting annoying. Both my home phone and cell phone are on the do not call list...lot of good that does.
- Caller: Scammer

This is a scam claiming you have viruses on your computer. You don't have viruses on your computer so don't listen and since this is a scam they are already breaking the law so why care if your on the do not call list. Perhaps if enough claims are filed against this guy they will investigate it.- Caller: different every call
- EdWe are receiving these calls from this number too. Oddly today, the call occurs right after hanging up on a call using our cell phone and these are two different numbers/systems. It's a computerized process, they don't say anything unless you do first, then it prompts them to begin. Surely there's got to be some form or process of legality with identifying and filing charges of harrassement. Our line is unlisted. If someone knows of a legal procedure to make this stop and not just us but stop period would be good!

- CharAdd me to the list too. About 20 minutes ago. I didn't pick up my phone.
- Caller: 1-888-997-1637
- WhateverSame as the others..... It doesnt mater they lie to you
- GaryObviously some kind of sales scam...A guy with a heavy East Indian accent called, and got into an argument with me about his company being legit, and he was trying to help me with my Window's computer problem...If I have a problem, it would be because his company had previously hacked into the computer!
- Call type: Telemarketer
- unknownThey don't leave messages or tell you who they are or what they want.
- Caller: don't know
- D Greco[***] just called me at 11:30 pm hung up when I answered. Tried to call back and it's busy.
- cgot a call at 1 in the morning
- unknownGot the call at 11 p.m. last night. Woman had a heavy Indian accent. Sounded like she was calling from a call center. I just tried calling back (at 1:18 p.m.) to ask what they wanted. The guy wanted me to go to my computer. I told him I was not at home but at work and suspected he was scamming me. He got angry, said he was not. I pressed him for the name of his company and he siad it is "The Windows Technical Department." He said he is based in California, and the company has a contract with Microsoft and called late at night because it was an emergency hack on my computer.
Microsoft's website has this to say about phone scammers: http://www.microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx- Caller: Windows Technical Department
- Grrr| 3 repliesWindows customer service is really going downhill. They recently called me at 9:30 PM, 11:00 PM, and other assorted times of the day and night. They grew angry with me when I asked why they would call so late. They threatened me by telling me that there is a virus on my computer and that if I do not fix it, they are going to cut off my internet access. I'm not sure how the "Windows Technical Department" could even achieve that aim, given that they have nothing to do with my internet access. But they seemed pretty confident. When I grew frustrated and swore at them, they hung up on me like petulant children. What happened to "The Customer is Always Right"? How rude. Gosh, Microsoft, you are really losing it--and not just because I loathe Windows 8.
P.S., why is scammer not a choice on the dropdown? - HorseladyReceived a call from 888-997-1637. They were calling about my computer. I told them not to call me again. Hung up on them!
