- Miranda PittsBeen calling my bfs phone saying they will fix his computer want him to send money on a green dot card
- JessieBeware.. they froze my safari with a pop up saying that i was being compromised by hackers. it looks like a safari logo with this number to it to help you get started again. when i called i went through a lengthy look at my computer (of course i did not give them my name like they asked or my email - AND i turned my internet off so no one could get access to my computer) with the end result of this indian man asking me for money. Nope, I hung up... he called back and said "do you want your mac fixed or what?" I yelled at him to not call back or i would report him. It was then I thought this is fishy (yes it took til then)
Details of how they do it:
First, he asked for my full name and email. I told him my first name and said I wasn't going to give him the rest. Then he wanted to get on my computer by "sharing" access. I again said No Way. He responded "well wouldn't you let someone else have access to it, who works on your computer. It's not any different." I told him it was a big difference when i can see the person who is working on my computer and i know where they are. he insist on showing me where the viruses hide on my computer and took me to the console and terminal of my computer... again I am not connected to any internet, so i felt okay with looking around. We even started the Firewall up (which for some reason was not on) So i didn't feel threatened at that moment. then he told me i could either take it in to a mac shop for 5-8 days for $780 or get an online tech to fix it for $400. Ummmm, Ridiculous. I told him nevermind... then it hits me to ask him who he works for.. safari or mac. He said he was with Mac online services and he could take me payment. Funny, because he started talking to me about PCs in the beginning. I hung up on him. He called back and says right off "This is the tech you talked to a minute ago, Do you want your mac fixed or what?" I yelled at him big time and told him not to call back.

- Orvel| 3 repliesSame happened to me this Indian man asking for money and access to see my computer.
- Glen Strickey replies to OrvelSo how do you fix this?
- Pat replies to Orvel| 1 replyHow would I get rid of the page off my Safari?
- Uh Oh Chongo! replies to PatMac? or PC? In both cases the quickest, easiest solution is to hold down the power button until the computer shuts down. Reboot - for PC run a full virus scan.
- Glen Strickey| 1 replyHi Uh Oh Chongo!
I tried to hold down the power button to shut off, but when I restarted it was still there? I am on a mac and it is effecting safari. I can quit safari and use chrome(am using it now), but every time I try to start up safari it is there and I cannot get rid of it? This is the error message:

- EricMy Safari browser (Macbook) got jacked. The screen was frozen and it said to call 888-998-0773 to remove a virus and unlock the screen. I did not call the number. I simply did a force quit of Safari and restarted Safari while holding down the shift key and it was fixed. The people responsible for this should be thrown in jail....

Same thing happened but I use Chrome and already had "Pop-Up Blocker" installed so it didn't lock my computer down at all. I was able to just click the site closed. Did any of you get to this site from using Pinterest??? That's how I stumbled there :-(
I was looking at a pretty dress on Pinterest and clicked the link, then the new tab said I had an been infected and had a virus root kit installed. I called the number, Indian guy answered, said he was a "Level 5 Micrisoft Security Worker" and he wanted me to turn off my computer and turn it on again by holding down the power button for 5 seconds. I asked him wouldn't that activate the virus and I wanted to run a scan first before turning it off and he said "No, I need to get access to your computer right away" I felt like it was a sure scam at that point. My phone did not have wifi on and it's Internet was from a different carrier service and I hadn't given him any information so I just hung up and Googled "Security Error Code" and the phone number. I called the number back after reading about their scam and tried to reason with the man on the phone and tell him to find a different job for his family that wasn't being a scam and a thief. Then he told me that he worked for a legitimate company, he was talking fast and I didn't catch the name but it wasn't Microsoft, and I called him out on that because the other phone tech had said they were Microsoft employees.- Caller: Unknown
