- KEITH replies to maryI got a call from this # today stating they are Comp USA. Verfing billing address.
- po neegTigerDirect bought CompUSA's online division when CompUSA closed their stores

- Ted replies to Joy| 2 repliesReceived a message Aug. 11, wanting to verify a Gateway order. No order had been placed with Gateway. They called again Aug. 12, to verify an order from Tigerdirect. Told them no order was placed. Asked what CC was used and immediately called the CC. Several fraudulent charges were pending and stopped.
- spPlaced order through CompUSA.com using PayPal as the payment option. Got a call from this number saying they were TigerDirect and I should call back to verify purchase. I called the number but didn't hear their company name when the automated voice answered. I talked to a representative who proceeded to ask me couple of questions including the last four digits of my social, and gave me a whole bunch of names (one of which was my sister)and asked which one I recognized. I asked her why she was asking these questions as I had paid through PayPal specifically so that they wouldn't have access to my personal info. She basically said she was just doing her job and that some software she's using asks these questions. I told her I was suspicious and that I would verify this stuff through the CompUSA customer service number. I called CompUSA and the woman I spoke with said sometimes the service department calls to verify things and kept on trying to transfer me there instead of being able to provide me with some specifics. I wasn't pleased with their customer service and I just had a bad feeling about this altogether so I just cancelled the order. The charge is pending through PayPal, let's see how long it takes for my money to be released.
I think most probably this whole thing is legit but TigerDirect/CompUSA is really doing a disservice to themselves and to their customers by the bizarre way they go about this. What may have started out as a way to protect customers (maybe) ended up making this one very suspicious instead. They might also want to train their employees a bit better with clearer answer... if it indeed is all legit. - bill replies to Ted| 1 replyThis is Tiger Direct's credit card verification number. You will get a call from this # if your billing address does not match your mailing address, as will happen with a fraudulent call. A fraudulent charge was made to my CC # within a month of my first purchase with Tiger Direct. While this telephone confirmation allowed me to refute the order, it also meant that I had to cancel my credit card - not an uncomplicated process. It's pretty clear to me that Tiger Direct's online order is less than secure.
- princethis number called at 9:00 Sunday morning supposedly verifying order. No order placed.

- UnsatisfiedI verified that it's part of tigerdirect.com (i think a seperate company), but that is not my problem. While I know it's "there to protect me (the customer)", I just dont like it. They asked me for my social security number, and to fax them a utility bill and my photo I.D., It's all very shady, especially since they asked if i recognized several things including someones MAIDEN (theyve been married for over 2 years) name in which they are not even related to my card or the order! amongst other things... So i canceled the order for a (second time, the first time i was advised to simply change the shipping address which i did) on the phone and told the guy to leave a note saying it was because i am unsatisfied with there 1-888-999-8800 card verification system, i also told him tigerdirect needs to do something about that because i googled the number and it appears noone likes it either, so im not alone, and get this... he laughed and said "we arent getting rid of it, it's for your protection", ok thanks, now my family member cant get what i was sending them.

- Puzzled In AmericaI received a voice mail (from a real person) a couple hours after I had purchased a computer from tigerdirect. My billing address and shipping address are not the same. All I was asked was my order number and my name; then I was placed on hold for what seemed like an inexplicably long time. In the meantime, I checked my order status at tigerdirect and it already said that my cc had been verified and that my order was being processed for shipment. A moment later the guy came back on the phone and said I was good to go, and asked no further questions.
It was a weird experience, but not as intrusive as the others I see here. The observation above that this might be a fix for a less-than-secure cc payment system may be on the money. However, tigerdirect can easily make up for this - we'll see how shipping, delivery and any needed after-sale consultation go. I bought from them because they provided way more info about the computer than any other sales source yet still had by far the best price.- Caller: Tigerdirect or someone on their behalf

- AnonymYeah I hated my phone Call :(
Same thing tho, asked some personal Info, WTF is paypal for?
Told me to fax:
my credit card
both sides of drivers license with current address
and a bill from mastercard with current address
funny thing was it was to a Florida address, i live in Canada.
O this is the best part>>> i was at a restaurant when i got this call, when i went to pay for my meal, the card was declined, they managed to disable my card. Now i got to call mastercard and %$#@% at them to get it reactivated for the second time. (billing addy and shipping addy are different) Mastercard told me it would be a problem after the first time i called them.. now im calling them again.- Caller: Claimed to be Tiger Direct

- whaaat? It was from Circuit City asking me to verify a purchase. They asked me to pick a punch of street names nearby where I live. They said it's to verify the shipping address. The problem is, none of the street names are real. So they said I failed the verification and I need to fax (only fax) a copy of my driver's license both sides and my credit card to (305)415-2172. I guess they want me to jump though hoops so that I cancel the order and then they dont need to give me the Bing 15% off deal.

- Weird indeedSame number after ordering through circuit-city. Told me they were waiting on paypal approval/review. I received an e-mail from paypal yesterday, telling me they reviewed the order and advised the seller to ship...
Not sure who's being slow there, but 24hrs to send an e-mail or make a phone call seems waaayyy too long if you are trying to offer customer service and get your 'sold' orders out to the customer... - John Schenel replies to billHas nothing to do with Tiger Direct if someone tries to place an order with your credit card. They at least are attempting ot prevent fraud byt calling you to verify the order. You should thank them actually. :)
- PauletteAlso received from this number saying it was Tiger Direct and to call back concerning order that wasn't place.

- well duh replies to Madison CIf someone placed an order and gave them the wrong number.
- GinnyReceived a call at 8:30 pm from this number, no company name given, just request to call back and an order number. I did order a gift card last month, but that has already been delivered so I see no point in verifying it now. When I called back I was put on hold for over 10 minutes - after finding out it was Credit Card Verification for Tiger Direct - so finally I just hung up. This is supposed to be customer service but it's very annoying and confusing, and I won't order from them again.

- tickedreceived a voice mail from 888-999-8800 stating I should call them in regard to an order #XXXXXXXX. Funny, I did place an order thru Amazon yesterday, but the above order number doesn't match. The message was barely audible and we listened FOUR times. Will not return the call. If this is a legitimate service, then they need to be more customer friendly. State Attorney General advises to NEVER give out any identifying info if you didn't initiate the call. 'nough said.

- grraw| 2 repliesThis is Tiger Direct. I placed an order today and they called to confirm my information EOD. I missed the initial call and called them back and was speaking with someone in about 15 seconds. I actually did not end up having to give them any additional information over the phone as the order had already gone out. In any case, it's legit.
