Hanger-uppers called @ 0935 EST 11/16,

someone with an accent said they were calling from "The Business Development Department". I immediately hung up. They always call and ask if we plan on moving in the near future. Then they usually hang up. These phone calls are very suspicious. I always hang up on them.

I got a call from this number claiming to be the state of California's business review department and wanted to know if we found a new location for my business. I asked who told them I was moving - as I was not planning on moving.  They hung up.

Called multiple times over the last few weeks, claiming to be from State of California Business Development office, asking when we're moving.  There is no such office.  Wish I could figure out what their scam is.

If this is the same scam I remember and if I remember the scam correctly, they are probably trying to get you to answer yes or no (either answer would work for them) in order to add charges to your phone bill. Check your next phone bill for additional charges and dispute them if you see them.  You should also be able to tell your phone company to block these types of charges.

It was Alvin from the "Business Development Council"  I asked him for his street address.  He was hard to understand and hung up when I engaged him in conversation.

Caller says they are from the Michigan Development Office. This is a fraud. Wants information about our company and if we are moving. ka

Said they were from "Saint Louis Business Development..."  Asked for number of employees, etc.  They keep calling a couple times per week.  Don't know if it is legit but I won't answer this number just in case.

This girl keeps calling and screaming that she wants to kill me, calls me "[***]", and says  stole her boyfriend. I have called the local police department. 11-29-11

Claimed to be from the Ontario Business Development Office and wanted to verify our information. 3rd world accent. I hung up and they called back 6 times. each time I hung up or answered and immediately put them on hold which seemed to work better than just hanging up. Slowed down the cycle.

Have been getting this format call for years. This is the first time for this number. Can't call them back.

same deal from "State of Illinois" asking where we relocated.  Is it really about phone charges?  What is the point of this scam?

Called yesterday (twice), then again this morning. Claimed to be from the MN Dept. of Business Development, which does not exist under that name. Told the non-english speaking person we recognized her number from our scam list and she asked "what is scam?" I called her an idiot and hung up. She then called me right back and hung up on me. Time to start playing with them if they continue to call.

Nothing worse than someone with a foreign accent rapidly speaking what they believe is English.  I speak enough Spanish and I always try to speak slowly and enunciate carefully - and the caller who left the message after we rejected the call - called back, left profanities and that this "was a big deal".

So, there you go.  Foreign call centers that can at least pronounce profanity . . . go figure.

They called saying from my state business development office...Wanted to know if I was moving. Asked if they knew something that I didnt? She hung up.

The point of the phone charges is that many people do not go through line by line on their phone bill to look at charges. Some companies try to take advantage of this by adding small charges to many peoples' phone bills. Many phone companies do not allow you to dispute charges more than a month or two old.

guess i should have googled this sooner - i've received maybe 20 calls over the last couple months asking about the moving and so forth and wanting our information to put in their 'finished report'.  they have portrayed themselves as the business development office and the state of florida, both of which are valid entities for my area.  what a drag.  i still can't figure out what they really want.

Here is a theory for you and it think its pretty sound. first off, i have had everything everyone else has commented on with a twist.
i took some time today to play along with them and answered a few questions. then they asked who the person in charge was, which i told them i would not answer, then they gave me the name of someone in my office.

here is why that is odd, lately, i have been getting a lot of cold calls from people asking for the same person. they say they were told that this person was on a list and listed as the president of our company which is not the case, but that person did take a call from these guys before. i think this company is phishing for details for a calling list. finally i got aggravated that they insisted they had to have answers and hung up.

The caller was a a very busy/noisy call center room.  She had a poorly disguised Indian accept and claimed to be calling from the State of California Business Development.

I have received these calls repeatedly over the last several years.  I told her that she was not calling from the California State Government and that she could not call here again.  She then said "How would YOU know" (in response to the "not calling from the state government".  I hung up on her. She tried to call back but I let it go to voicemail.

Definitely some sort of scam and I reported them the last time they called to the federal government complaint website.

I told this guy to stop calling me.  He said "then close your business".  He wouldn't tell me where he was calling from or what he wanted.  He got very nasty.  Said he was from the "economic business council."

When I told him to stop calling and hung up on him, he then repeatedly called my phone, which I did not answer.
