Received a call from this number but did not leave a message.  I was curious as to who they were.  According to White pages Reverse this number is for MagicJack? Read a few posts on Ripoff Report regarding their company.  Not sure if they are a good company or what.

Got a call from a Victor Avery very very thick mid east accent call from the state investigations. There is no state investigations dept.  This is a maagic jack number. It's a scam.. I got taken in once I will not be taken again. My son is a police officer and was very upset I paid on a money gram. They can't check who it is paid to. They have a outside person pick up the money gram which is in their name(Mine was Grace White) and then taht person gets a 100.00 and the rest goes to the mid east person. DO NOT PAY!!!!!!!

Ok. . . . just tried calling me. . This time it was 'officer Mike Watson'

Let's have some fun. . . . Wanna flood the number with 'crimes' to 'report'. . since it's the 'state investigations dept' ???. . . hahahahaha!

In all seriousness though do not even respond to these bafoons,  If you can, just block the number.  But DO NOT give any more information than they already have, . . they may have your SS number, etc.  It's usually in response to applying for an online payday loan.  Don't let that bother you too much, but don't give them any more.

If you want to have fun with them at that point. . . have it.  Lead them on a goose chase, laugh at them, talk back at them in a fake accent, tell them you're the CIA and are flying a drone over their house, etc.  LOL

Oh. . . to add to that. . . it is NOT in response to any payday loan you may or may not have ever taken.  All you had to do to get on their 'list' is inquire about one. . .   Do NOT let them FOOL you.

This is a TOTAL scam.  Seriously. . . laugh at them, have fun with it. . ask them if their refridgerator is running, or if they have Prince Albert in a can.

My roommate got scammed by this Jerk in December by falling for a man calling from our local PD number saying he had an arrest warrant for her, and wanted to know where she was so he could serve it. At that time, they were spoofing another number out of Florida, 786-284-5994, and using the name of Leif Hanson. Today he used the name of Steven Jones and demanded $495.00 for a cash advance that she supposedly took out over the internet in the amount of $595.00 and never repaid.

I spoke to him today, with her in the room; he is spoofing all of the numbers that the calls come from. He has even spoofed the local PD number and the AG's number. He is good. In fact, the FBI has told me that there is virtually no way to track him (Sorry CSI and NCIS) even if they were here, set up and ready to trace when he calls.
I was a paralegal for many years until my auto accident from the mid-1990s caught up with me and I was forced to retire due to the many surgeries and chronic pain that I now suffer, so am able to give some very good advice to anyone who has someone with a very thick middle eastern accent but with a common, anglo name. DO NOT ENGAGE HIM UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING! HANG UP. CALL YOUR LOCAL ATTORNEY GENERAL (who will send you information about scams and how they work, but will also take a complaint from you) and KNOW that these people can make any number they want to come up on your caller ID, even YOUR OWN! So, if you get a call from your local authorities, but the accent it thick Indian or middle eastern, GET THE NAME, but don’t worry. Call the number that YOU have for non-emergency calls and ask for that officer. Then you can set your mind at ease, if you need to do that. Chances are that the officer that “called” never heard of you!

According to our AG, the roommate having just called them as I was writing this, they have had ‘a ton’ of calls that were exactly the same as she received today. Their advice? Ask for their name, make them repeat it as many times as it takes to understand what they are saying, make them spell it if need be. Then ask for their mailing address, again, make them let you understand that again. Once you have it all written down, tell them that they have been very helpful, because you needed that information to make a complete FRAUD report to your Attorney General’s office. Then, cheerfully hang up and Call your AG immediately. It is very likely that they won’t give you their address or the name of the company, other than to say they are with the State Bureau of Investigation or Financial Crime Investigation.

I received a call yesterday.  Mid Eastern accent male going by the name of Victor Henry with the State of Investigations Financial Dept.   The guy had my balance from my checking account and wanted me to pay him the money on a supposed payday loan I never took out.  Last Summer I received a call from this same male, who informed me that "the World would be falling down on my head".  Last night it was something about my family and I would be losing my job.  I made a police report and we are waiting for him to call again,  The call will be forwarded to the fraud division detectives who will take it from there.  They have been tracking this guy for a few years.  It is a Magic Jack line and goes through a VOIP computer.  Do not give any information to this guy, he will eventually stop calling once he realizes you will not give him info.  He called 4x this morning while I was at work.  I agree that this is probably terrorists trying to scare people into giving them money to fight the US.  No Federal government office is making phone calls after 5 pm to try to collect $190 and no Federal agent will speak with a thick Mid-Eastern accent and make threats or harrass a person.

He called again today and the call was forwarded to a detective with the police department.  After he hung up on the detective, he used the Magic Jack to make a call to my house but it showed up as my local police department.  This guy is relentless, but if you feed into it, he will drive you crazy.  Just ignore the calls and he will eventually give up.  The police did inform me this has been an ongoing case for several years.

I got the same call as bdai. "Officer Nick Fleming" of the "State Bureau of Investigations". What a load of crap!
This has happened to me before, a few years ago. He threatened me with arrest, told me that there was a warrant for my arrest. He wanted $595 from a Green Dot money Pack. When I suggested that he take my debit card, he said that he couldn't take money from my bank because they have had a bad experience with my bank, that's why he wants a Money card. If this was a real company, they would be able to take my debit card. Right now, he is waiting for me to go to Walgreen's and pick up a Money Pack. I am sick and tired of these scams, but I don't know what to do. Frankly, I was a bit nervous because of the threats, but when he told me to get the Money Pack, I knew it was B***S***. If they call you, Google his number while he is on the phone to see if it's a scam. Don't give money to this A** H***. And don't let it worry you a bit. Unless he is building a pipe bomb in your town...

Guess I'm one of the lucky ones...not!  I decided to mess with the guy cause I'm well aware of these types of scams. He then totally flipped the script on me. Instead of tryin to persuade me or yell at me, he dropped his voice a notch and began to get very sexual. Saying all the things he would do to me.  I laughed so hard because I had never had tha happen before. Eventually hung up only to get a call 5 minutes later, this time the guy raised the pitch of his voice a little and asked if I'd like to be in a relationship with him.  Wow! I'm bored. Think ill stop answering the phone now
