- edthis number years ago was a number for the facilities maintenance department of Brookshire Grocery Company in Tyler Tx. Yrs ago they changed their number--the telephone company has apparently reassigned this number--using a block call I called this number and got a computerized answering machine--you know push 5 for... 6 for... etc. When I punched the operator number I got a repeat of the computerized message and then please enter the name of the person called.
I think this is either an insurance company or a bill collector from the way things were worded--can't be sure. The caller ID was Marshl Swift BO and that is the way the computer answering machine answered--in English first and then in Spanish. Beware! - onkarra| 1 replycalled to my cell number and hanged up. When called back it was computerized answering machine with a lot of options -- I didn't notice or care. The same number called my home several times. Goofy!! Beware!!
- sleepyjo replies to onkarraJust received the same call from the same number asking for my husband. She had no message to leave. No bill collectors after us yet anyway lol. Didn't think to tell her we are on the state no call list. Not sure if it would have done any good though!
- medac| 7 repliesI work for Marshall & Swift. We are an inbound tech support call center for the insurance industry. We are also contracted by insurance companies to verify their policy holder's home features. We would only contact you if you are a policy holder of an insurance company we are working with. no sales. You people saying beware are ridiculous!
- christine replies to medac| 1 replyi got a call from you...why didn't you leave a message...what kind of professional company calls a person and doesn't leave a message?????????
- ddtthey hung up when my answering machine picked up.
- Robert in VA| 3 repliesThis company, Marshall and Swift called today conducting verification for my insurance company. Questions began innocent enough but ended up asking questions which did not relate to home owner's insurance policy, like, "Do you have a dog, what kind? How does that relate to my insurance. What I do have is gun that will shoot anybody that tries to enter without proper authorization......

- Sue in CTKeep getting calls from these people. I answered questions the first few calls now I just stopped answering the phone. They never left a message until yesterday saying we know your insurance company is ((((( and we are working with them. I've already answered enough questions, if it were truly important my insurance company would have sent something to me in the mail.

- nyro replies to christineI agree if it was a reputable company they leave a message.
- Dwight FryeI dont care if it is legitimate or not,am sick to death of unwanted phone calls. If they are working with my insurance company,I have too much insurance on my house already.I dont want to be bothered with it,is just that simple.
- Drew replies to medacMedac,
The problem I have with your company, is that whenever a rep from Marshall & Swift calls they do not leave a message. That is rude and unprofessional for a company representative to conduct themselves. My response to such calls, if you do not have the common courtesy to leave a message I have no desire or responsibility to conduct business with the company. It is very important in my mind when you first contact someone you should leave a message. I screen all my calls, if I do not recognize the number, I will not pick-up. If you leave a message I now know who is calling and the purpose of the call and when I see the number again on caller Id more than likely, I will pick up. - KC123 replies to Robert in VA| 1 replyThey are probably asking what kind of dog because they
want to know if someone has a Pit Bull or some other
kind of dog that might bit someone, causing a lawsuit
that they might have to pay for. - FYI| 1 replyI've received several calls & do agree with many of you that a professional company should leave a message. I screen my calls. There's no way I'll ever answer the phone if I don't know the number. Even if I had answered their call, with the number of scams around, there's no way I would have provided personal information pertaining to my home to some company I've never heard of.
I called my insurance company, USAA, and asked if these were legitimate calls and was told they were. The agent was able to handle ask me the questions right then & it did not effect my homeowner's insurance.- Caller: Tyler, TX
- RationalGeezer14 Oct 2009 - My insurance company is also USAA. I received a questionaire in the mail but did not respond until yesterday, about 5 days after receipt. The questionaire contained some of the questions mentioned in the comments here. I missed the call, but because of the information here, I will ignore it; they will soon receive my response through snail mail.
I understand there are some scammers who try to get suckers to return their calls to the Cayman Islands, then bill $thousands. Reflexively returning unknown calls is not a good idea. - Dee| 3 repliesI used to work for a private investigator years ago. I was the secretary and typed up the reports, answered phones, took notes over the phone about new cases coming in. There were times when I needed to attend interviews where we were collecting evidence for workmens comp. cases that were about to go to trial and we needed evidence to convict people of fraud. These people were tyring to claim they were hurt on the job and had injuries. We made up stories that we were from the electric company and that someone had been using their identity and social security number and running up credit card bills and charging their electric bills to these credit cards that were obtained by stealing their identity. So they let us in and we had a standard sheet of paper with questions on it like address and phone #'s and social security #'s. Stuff that an average stranger would not have. We knew so much about them that they trusted that we were who we said we were. Our letter head was something we typed up and then made photo copies of. It was not official letterhead stationary from the electric company, but they beleived everything we said and answered all our crazy questions.
In my opinion Marshall Swift is a collection agency. I have been finding their name and number on my caller ID lately. When I do answer they sometimes pretend they are a local radio station and ask if I am willing to take a survey. But I know what they really want. My 19 yr old has an outstanding loan from a college who charged her an orientation fee for an orientation she informed them she would attend but she didn't show up to. She chose a different college last minute and was at another college orientation conference that week-end and couldn't be in 2 places at once. Now they want her to pay $300.00 and have been calling my home for a year now using different names and telephone I.D. numbers. But it's always the same man's voice. And he can be really snotty when I tell him I know who he really is and what he's really after.
So check into your situation. Maybe someone you are living with has outstanding bill's from their past and the private investigator has finally located them at your address.
They have access to a book called BRESSER'S. It's a phone book with every listed and unlisted phone number in the country. Only the government has access to this book. If you have a private investigators lisence you are allowed to purchase one and use it. They are updated every year just like the yellow pages and list phone numbers by street address. So if they have your telephone number they also have all your neighbors telephone numbers also. They will and do call your neighbors asking questions about you. They make up stories about you trying to get information about you. They might tell something awful like you were once convicted of child molestation, and have you ever seen young people going in and out of the home who do not live there.
They will stoop to any level. It always starts out the same way. First when they try and contact you they tell you who they really are and that they are trying to collect on a loan and when might they expect a payment. They will call again in 2-4 weeks again stating who they are. When you begin to avoid them and wont answer the phone, they will use different tactics to get you on the line. They will pretend to be an insurance company updating records. I bet if you ask them WHAT insurance company are you checking on? and what is my policy #? Or what kind of policy is it? Life insurance? All of a sudden they can't answer your questions and they begin to faulsify who they are.
IF your insurance company is trying to get updated information for their records... An AGENT from your insurance company will do the calling, NOT a second company. All your personal information is confidential and they don't pass it on to anyone else because they don't want other insurance companies coming along and stealing you away.
I believe the guys name is Mike. Hi Mike ! I'm sure he reads this everyday to see how informed/in the dark we all are.

- Dee| 1 replyAlso, Private Investigators/Collection Agency's will call from several different numbers and several different caller ID's. They usually have 4-7 different telephone numbers at any given time and as people catch on they will change their telephone number and ID's through out the year. They have a list of fake names and fake companies they use to get information. Mostly they want telephone numbers so they can harrass as many people they can who are connected to the person they are trying to collect from. The more people they can harrass - the better the chance that they will get paid if you finally pay the debt off. So-Tape a piece of paper to the wall next to the phone and write down the number's and Id's, dates and times as they come in. After a while you'll see a familiar number come up. Compare it to the on-going list you are keeping and you will see numbers or names repeated. Sometimes he won't use a name. Just a number. But if he's good at it - the number won't repeat very often because THEY also keep records of the names and numbers they use on you so - you don't catch on. Collection Agencis don't make much money and they don't stay in business long. Usually there is only one or two people working at the agency itself. It's a frustrating job and the company will give up on you after awile and sell your case to another collection agency to see if they have better luck at collecting from you. Sometimes they tell you they are with the police department in a nearby city and they are investigating stolen property. Sometimes they say they are collecting for a policemans benefit.
Dont answer any questionier over the phone...If they find you- they will find your parents and siblings too! Anyone who may have co-signed a loan with you, maybe someone who purchased auto-insurance for you, or have a private phone at your parent's house. You can tell them to cease and desist...it's a law term that indicates you know the law and they have to stop calling. But they won't stop calling unless you sue them. I could sue them if I wanted because my daughter no longer lives with me and they are still harrassing me. But people never do because they can't afford it. It's just one of those things almost every family has to deal with at least once in their life time. GOD BLESS!!! LOVE ALWAYS - DON'T BE HATING!!!!!! Dee- Caller: Mike?something?

- anonymous7:30 p.m. monday 10/26/09. this marshall swift outfit hung up when answering machine picked up. had never heard of them before, until usaa, a company we do business with, sent a cover letter asking us to provide marshall swift with info involving how much to insure a residence.
we didn't return the form to marshall swift as its final question asked what kind of dog we had if any. certainly didn't bolster confidence in disclosing any info.
will definitely call usaa this week to complain about them subcontracting out to creeps, esp. ones who call at night and hang up, no less.
hope this helps anyone else being pestered.- Caller: narshall swift
- disgruntled postal workerI don't have a contract with Marshal Swift. This number keeps calling and hanging up. No messages on the answering machine.

- TI am a USAA member (Insurance Co) I just got a letter from this company Marshall Swift a few weeks ago asking questions regarding my Home owners insurance. Asking questions like :
What year was the house built?
How many sq ft exactly?
How many beds/ baths?
Garage?
Pier & beam or Slab?
What year was the roof put on?
Etc etc etc.
Basically questions and answers they ALREADY HAVE!
The year of my house being built has not changed, nor
has my foundation type.
In the letter it states they want this info so they can give
fair premuim quotes when its time for renewal.
Hope this helps!
(Im not entirely sure that you have to supply this info in all honesty,
espicially since they are third party to USAA). But a simple call to
USAA Home Owners insurance should solve it for me.
T - minnieI received a call from this place I didn't answer and they didn't leave a message. I don't have any bills outstanding that a collection agency would be calling on. Its very irritating.
