who are these  people?   Call and call and leave no message

This is a debt collector. The voicemail named a former owner of my number who gets a large number of debt collection calls.

Credit Card Services is what I was told when someone finally answered. they have been calling my son's phone for weeks and not leaving a message. Today they said they were calling for a Dori, who no longer has this number

This is a debt collector.  I called the number and it goes straight to a person's desk - no receptionist.  When they call me they NEVER leave a message on my voice mail, and they call me almost every day.

I have had this phone number for four years, and they are still calling for an individual that had this number before me.

I just got a call onb my cell from this number asking for my husband.  I told them this wasn't his number and then they said my name, I said yes.  They told me that they were an operator and they had someone on the phone that wanted to speak with me.  They told me before they put the person on the phone they had to verify my SS#.  I don't think so!  I hung up.

It's not a debt collector. More than likely it is a scammer trying to get money or personal information from you in an attempt of identity theft. Any legit debt collector will have their company information linked to the phone number if you Google search the number. This number does not. Also, any legit debt collector would send you a letter on the company letterhead via mail if they are trying to collect funds. ANY number that you get a call from that does not show up on the net with company information is more than likely a scam. Best thing you can do is contact your phone service provider and have the number blocked to prevent them from contacting you again.
