caller asked to speak to me then went on to say that she was calling from a lawyer office and that she needed me to call this 800-983-8331 number even wanted the address for my employment..dont think so

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Keep getting calls from this # saying they are a lawyers office trying to collect from me (an employee) for a so called debt for the company I work for?? First off they are not a real lawyer they are just a collection agency posing as a lawyer to try to intimidate people to paying a debt that is not theirs. Second how are they going to start coming after employees saying they are responsible for the debt?

called my parents an then my employer looking for me.. i do not know who francine landow is or mrs williams.... they are harrassing an will not quit calling my work or my parents. what can i do about this?

Read my post, above. If that doesn't work, let them know they are calling on a recorded line, you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have reported them to the authorities.

constant harassment also.  They want me to credit card or debit card them money, but refuse to send me the terms of the payback.  My attorney said to not send a dime without their credentials and the legal backing of their collection attempts.

They contacted my parents regarding a debt supposedly owed & when I called, they wouldn't even give me any information on what the debt was & said they were going to serve me papers & take me to court. Very nasty guy! They told my mom, to have me call Francine Landau a call back.

These people are so annoying....

This freak started yelling at me when I said I can't pay cause I'm on disability. If they were real lawyers they'd know the laws with debt collecting all of which they're breaking and they'd know suing a disabled person is stupid since their income is judgement proof. I'm filing a lawsuit against them for harassment.

Tell them to put it in writing. Also if they are a real collection agency they should do that little speal thing. I hate but I didn't make the rule. if they ask for an address just hang up. You do have rights to not work with them.

I received a call from 904-398-8488 at 8:30 AM, they asked me to explain my benefits of my insurance to the lawyer (?)  They have my name and phone number and I told them I am working and cannot speak to them and hang up.

Francine Landau's office contacted  me regarding an outstanding bill with a third party. I spent many hours researching this matter and discovered that while I did owe a portion of this debt, more than half of it was in error. i had to provide documentation to them to prove my point.  I did talk with the third party who were very understanding and worked with me to resolve the dispute.  The matter is now  closed, however I have requested that Ms. Landau send me confirmation of the closure of this dispute.  I have sent her three letters and have received no response.  When Mr. Robinson and Ms. Williams were dealing with me they certainly were able to communicate repeatedly!  the behavior of the people in this office has been extremely unprofessional and rude.

Just got a call from Francine Landau Law Office stated they were calling as debt collector. They didn't even say who they were calling for. I just listened to the message. I do not owe anyone. I will not call them back.

Woman asked to speak to me. Called my work phone number. Harassing asking for payment or else I better have an attorney because she will be suing me.

This number is bugging me that I have payment 2015

Called me twice, not knowing who I am.  Left some sort of background noise voice mail.  I returned the call and old gentleman says to leave my information, but did not tell me why called.  Strange number and I blocked the number.
