I don't know anyone in Jacksonville Fl. I don't answer calls from unknown callers to avoid scammers. Whoever called did not leave a voice message.

I called Citi Visa. It turns out this is a legitimate number for Citi collections. The transfer from AMEX to VISA isn't as smooth as I hoped. I had received a bill from AMEX which I tried to pay but wasn't able to because Citi VISA had assumed the account. I never received a bill from Citi so I didn't pay the them. I just received a bill from them stating I was 30 days overdue. So now Citi collections is calling. They acknowledged this their fault and it will be corrected. Not a great start for VISA and Costco.

We had the exact same issue!  They assured me when I called that they would correct the problem...obviously if I'm getting these calls they didn't correct the problem!  They make changes, it messes up and somehow it's my fault...this has been ridiculous!

I received the calls from this number (caller ID "Jacksonville, FL") more than 30 times, almost everyday, weekday, weekend, in early morning and in the evening. Someday, it called my number 5 times. It made me crazy. I did not answer the phone until today I decided to check this number out. I was greeted by an automation. It told me my Citibank Costco account has passed due. I became suspected because I talked to Citibank Costco two weeks ago and already made the payment. I "told" the machine that I already mailed the payment but the machine insisted that "I should provide the info of the payment and it is too late to mail the payment and that I should make the payment over the phone."  It sounds "phishing" .... so I hung up the phone.

Another thing to suspect it is a scam: when the bank calls me, the phone always display their ID such as Citibank, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, ... not the location such as "Jacksonville, FL".

This is what I think, the hackers got the information from Citibank Costco possibly from the credit history. The hackers are trying to collect your personal info.

If your account passed due and "they" call you don't give the info over the phone. Call the number on your card, they will connect you to the right person.

Okay, this is a valid call from Citibank....apparently during the Costco conversion cards were sent out via US Mail (like in May) and in my case never received so it went back and we had no idea we already had a card; we then got a new card at the local Costco and started using it.  Now it turns out the old card had a "balance" from Amex and they are making collection calls on the card!

So here we have another individual who, knowing full well who called them, has looked up the number anyway.  Why would you do that?

Entirely too many happy campers visiting 800notes, stating the call was really from their card company.  Hopefully even the gormless readers will heed this advisory:

    ADVISORY

    Readers:
    Be Safe, Not Sorry
Rather than believe the posts in this thread, or the words of an anonymous caller,
if you are notified of a problem with your card,

CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD

Even though the number in this thread might belong to your card issuer, the scammers can easily spoof what appears on your CallerID, and attempt to get your precious ID and card data!
