- JanH| 5 repliesAutotrader scammer. Texts message saying he wants to buy our car sight unseen using PayPal. Says he's in the military & can't call directly because his base in Arizona is on lockdown. Identical scam is coming in from 347-978-7236 - check that feed out.

- BigA replies to PFCraigslist, Kiiji, AutoTrader, Etc. Scam:
The scam works like this. Communication is always by text or email for some made up reason such as they are deaf, they deployed and can't use their phone (then how did the text get out?), etc. They think your item as described is perfect. They might ask a few questions about it, and then will pay your asking price, sight unseen, because they are never around close by to come look at it (they use the stationed somewhere in the military a whole lot, or working overseas, or on an oil rig in the middle of the ocean, or simply fill in your own job here). They will give you an extra $40 or $50 to hold it for them. Then they tell you they will send a cashier’s check or money order for that amount plus extra for the “shipper”. They ask you to wire that extra money by untraceable means such as Western Union or Moneygram. The check or money order turns out to be bogus and you end up out the money you sent plus the bank fees. Also, if the check is big enough you may end up being charged criminally. Take the check and the envelope it came in to the post office and have them forward it to the postal inspectors.
In the case of them using PayPal, the same thing happens. They send a fake email looking like it came from PayPal, get you to pay the shipper, and then find out that the e mail was fake and no money is available. - CraigScammer! Autotrader! Do not return text of call!

- ErikAbsolute Autotrader scammer. This one texts an email for gomezwilsonn13@gmail.com. Identical message comes from 609-467-4486 and forwards email from sgtbruce121@gmail.com. They now want to pay by paypal and of course arrange the shipper, buying for his Dad, etc. In the Military can't call. Run away from this.

- Danny| 7 repliesThis is what the email i got says:
Do you have the extra keys, Do you have the spare tire, Where did you
get your car serviced, Have you ever had any transmission repairs and
Is there any rust on the vehicle? I'm ready to pay your asking price
but not cash in person because I am serving in the US army and
currently been deploy to Fort Huachuca Military Base , Arizona and
calls are restricted at the moment and my only quickest payment option
is PayPal, its safe fast and secure and i will be responsible for the
PayPal transaction charges so you can get your expected amount. If you
don't have an account with PayPal, its pretty easy to open one, Just
log onto www.paypal.com and sign up. I hope we can make the purchase
as fast as possible? As I am buying the vehicle for my dad and I'm
very sure he will love this vehicle, his a mechanic and a handy man,
so if there is anything that need to be fixed in it just let me know
he will handle it. I have a mover that will come for the pick up once
payment clears in your account and he will handle the title for me.I
would appreciate if you email me with more pictures (if available) too
since i won't be able to see this in person. I look forward to hear

- Janet replies to AC| 2 repliesJust listed my car on Auto trader and was sent a text. It had 2 cellphone numbers. The first was a carpet cleaner in California, the second was this one. It requested I make contact via email. I sent a very brief email, then googled his number to find it’s a Scam - so grateful to everyone who has reported this.
Received an email this morning from “Seth Erickson”, asking questions, says in military so can’t view car, restricted phone access, wants to buy it for Dad, who’s a mechanic, will pay via PayPal, asked for more photos.
Boy I’m relieved I didn’t take it any further. - Mike MitschWe listed a vehicle on Autotrader and got a text from this number asking if it was still for sale. Gave us an email of rosenda32@gmail.com to respond to. We have sold other vehicles online and get the same thing. It is definitely a scam. Beware.
