- TomContact name Andrew Hall. Saying he is from Internal Affairs or Irs. Says either warrant out for you on legal matter. If you call back there is voice machine. They speak with thick accents. That is NOT the number for the IA office. This is twice they have called before a major holiday season. If you do reverse search invalid listing.
- Caller: Internal Affairs
- SpatsLeft recording on my machine, saying he was Marty Peterson from The Legal Department of the US Treasury. Said I was in Big trouble with the Treasury and I will probably need a lawyer. Heavy foreign accent, maybe from India. Said I should call back Sam Taylor at 760-897-3174. Said "this could end up in a legal mess for you". Signed off with "Have a Greeeat day". Could be an Obama appointee targeting Conservatives.

- Peter JReceived a call at 1:23 pm Mountain time from "Andrew Hall" from the "Department of Legal Affairs." He named my wife's name and read a script, basically saying that there was a legal matter and that we should contact our attorney, and to call him back at 909-237-5942.
His accent was so thick, he's clearly not named Andrew Hall. I've heard about this scam in the papers and am frankly surprised that people fall for something so obviously fraudulent. - Reporting from Evans, GAClaimed to be from the Department of the Treasury stating there was a warrant out for my wife's arrest. She didn't believe him. He gave her this number to call and a man with a thick accent gave her the same story. I called back and said "I heard you were impersonating the Department of the Treasury" - he quickly hung up"
they used this number 909 237 5942- Caller: Department of the Treasury
- Rocky MountainsI received a very similar call. The part I don't understand is they never asked for my CC or Social or anything. What was the purpose of it? I called my phone company and reported them, and I filed a complaint with the real Dept. of the Treasury. Have any of these calls resulted in any request for personal information?
I was told that I did not have a right to a lawyer anymore because that too much time had passed. Weird. - From OregonStill at it! "Madj Peterson" called wanting to talk to my wife. Some BS about a warrant out for my wife from the US treasury but refused to tell me why. Gave me a number to call. Called it and got "officer blah-blah" who told me that my wife was "under investigation for tax fraud and tax evasion." WTF?
Here's the fraud number at FTC: 1 800 447 8477
They are looking at these people and will want some basic info from you to help them out.

- Steve CarignanClaimed to be from the treasury department. Could "only" speak to me or my wife - left number with my son.
- EmI received a call and was told that I had a law enforcement action taken against due to tax evasion. I was told that I needed to call "officer" "Sam Taylor" at (909) 237-5942. He told me that my taxes were filed incorrectly, so a law enforcement action was taken against me. He also said that someone was going to come to my place of employment tomorrow to talk to me and that my employer had already been notified in order to start garnishing my wages. I asked him what he had on file for my place of employment, and he said he couldn't share that information.
I called back again, just to mess with them a little, and asked to speak with Sam Stone. I was told I could speak to a law enforcement officer, and I said, "Yes, I'd like to speak with their manager". They guy (without much hesitation) told me he WAS the manager.
I called back again to demand my number be taken off their call list, and the recording stated "the MAGIC JACK" customer you've called is unavailable. Please leave a message"- Caller: Legal Dept of US Treasury
- MarshallI recived a call from this # 909-237-5942. The guy was impersonate the IRS Department.

- JaneReceived this same call today, January 21, 2015. Asked for my son who is disabled. Became verbally combative / aggressive / rude when I wouldn't tell them if he was available or if he was at home. Said we needed to speak with Sam Taylor at 909-237-5942 to prevent immediate legal action. He indicated that he was from the Department of Legal Affairs at the U.S. Treasury. Spoke with heavy accent. Bunk! Pretty hard to get into trouble with the US Treasury when you're disabled. I also reported this call to my local phone company and blocked further calls from this number.
- STI got the same call, twice now. Nice to know that I am not the only one getting this prank call. Not sure what the gain is for them. Now I can't wait for them to call back so I can prank them!

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.
The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.
By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.
Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.
They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.
Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.
The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.
If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.
http://money.cnn.com/2015/01/22/pf/taxes/irs-tax-scams/ - Chris replies to AlfalfaYep, I got the same thing a few days ago -- very heavy foreign (India?) accent, calling for my adult son, who wasn't there, said to tell him to call Marty Peterson at the Department of the Treasury about some legal trouble, "in order to head off worse to come."
