Calls, leaves NO message.  On the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY.  Ever since we put our number on it we have been plague with numerous calls

Linda,  the DNC has nothing to do with your call.   That is Portfolio Recovery Associates,   one of the biggest bottom feeding collectors of old debts there is....Unfortunately,  their calls are legit as far as the DNC goes.  Collectors can call soliciting payment.....until you tell them to cease.  If you do it verbally,  they will not.  You have to send them a certified/ with signature requested cease and desist letter.  They have other associates who they use in collections so anyone sending them a Certified C&D had better clearly state that the C&D includes any and all affiliated companies, businesses, associates, and those acting on behalf of PRA.
I have been there,  done that.   A few years back they hammered me 4-10 times a day concerning an alleged debt that they said I owed because my 83 year old wife was in hospice care in Iowa.  Same name as my wife, different ssn.  Only problem,  my wife was at that time  32 yo and alive and well with me in Texas.  I had to send the C&D which stopped the calls,  but finally had to go to the Atty. gen of Iowa to stop it.
Those people are the lowest of the lowest maggots that ever crawled thru a sewer.....  

The biggest reason you have been plagued with so many calls is the same reason that everyone else is.
The scamming,  illegal collections,  and  sleezeball callers have reached the Highest point ever in the last few years.  It is epidemic everywhere and with everyone.  No one is exempt.....  I have never registered with the DNC and I had to get a Call Blocker to stop them.......It is simply what we have allowed this world come to today.

Did not answer phone call, understand is a debt collector, Portfolio Recoveries, have spoken with them from other numbers on multiple occasions before and want them to stop calling!

You can grow to love their calling, because each time they call, it is another opportunity to tell uninformed people what sleazebags they are. This was call #314 from Portfoolio Recovery experts, since their lawyer, Pearson, was forced to write to me by the state attorney general.

They had refused to reply to my written request for verification of the so-called debt they claimed I owed them. Pearson wrote that the debt could not be verified, it was just a line on a printout from some bank I nver heard of. He wrote that since I felt that way about it, they had "decided to cease collection efforts." That was first of September, 2010, more than two and a half years ago. and the bottom-feeding vermin are still calling, now and then.  

Idiots. I think they stick pins in voodoo dolls, thinking that will make us magically send money after years and years, thousands of calls, from dozens of spoofed numbers, have gone entirely unanswered. Poof! Like magic, one day someone in this house will simply up and send them a check, with apologies for being tardy.

Portfoolio Recovery ex[erts. sober up. Ain't gonna happen. If you sent some bank money for a line in a printout, that's your problem. Go pound sand.

Called today (sunday) and left no message

They called while I was at church and I called it back because they left no message and it is just a recording but does not tell me who they are. It was long distance so I did not hold on and wait,  for someone to finally answer waited few min. but still holding so I said the heck with that.  That cost too much

If you're getting calls from these scumbags, get yourself a number-blocking app and don't answer any number you don't recognize and/or one that doesn't display a recognizable I.D. Even if they're calling your home number and have no way to block them from that number, have those specific numbers forwarded to your cell phone and block them that way. That's what I do, and I've blocked at least 30 different numbers used by them.

I don't deny that this WAS my debt, but I have no way to pay anything -- and I sure as hell have no intention of paying THEM a dime. The credit card debt they keep hounding me about is so old and so far beyond my state's Statute of Limitations, it's not funny. And it's not worth engaging in a conversation with them to try to explain it to them.

Hooo-eeee! Call #316 since they "decided to cease collection efforts" -- according to their attorney Pearson --on an unverified, past statute debt to a bank I never heard of.

Please be aware, if you decide to tell them, in writing, to stop calling, as many people on this list do suggest, these vermin may very well send out a fraudulent 1099-C. They will report the "debt" they have "forgiven" to the IRS as income to you, even though you never did any business with them, even though they never supplied you with any goods or services, even though you may have defaulted fifteen years ago on a credit card for a balance of $1000, and these bottom-feeding pond scum clain you "owe" them $2000-- the IRS will be given an official-looking document saying you received income of the higher amount, not the amount you may have defaulted on. Clearly, a vicious, verminous extortion scam.

If you have enough income that a 1099-C would affect your income taxes, maybe it is better to just ignore these swine and don't answer the phone. It takes a lot of time and energy to write to the Post Office objecting to mail fraud, the Attorney general's office filing a complaint, the FCC reporting a violation, etc.

Amen my man, I have never heard the point of interest described with such exactness; person of your eloquence needs to defend us fellow real American from the bums whom somehow got voted into positions they do not deserve, nor no @@#$ about.

Here's what I finally did. I created a contact in my adress book called "SPAM". I assigned that "contact" a ringtone that is just 30 seconds of silence. I had to make it myself and it took some doing to get the phone tricked into thinking it was an actual ringtone but now when they call my phone doesn't ring at all. When they call from a new number, I look it up here and if confirmed I simply add that number to the SPAM contact. No hassles, no extra charges from the cell provider to block numbers, no need to pay for apps. Just a relief from the ringing low-life's phone calls. :)

Person said his name was "Albert Jones" I answered because of 914 area code - have family there - he just kept asking for a person's name, wrong number.

Here is what I have done to defeat these scum. Note this only will work effectively with cell phones.
1.    Get yourself a google voice number.  It’s free and has some great features such as call blocking.  When a call is blocked on GVoice  the caller will hear the SIT(Special Information Tone) that phone companies use for the this number is no longer in service. You’ve all heard the tones.  Most predictive dialers(robo dialers) that these people use will detect that tone and remove or note the number from the dialing list.
2.    Setup google voice to forward all calls to your phone and set up your phone to use GVoice voice mail rather than the cell providers voice mail. This works seamlessly with your phone and is very very easy to setup.
3.    Change your cell phone number and never give it out again.
When I get a call from one of these bottom feeders I simply mark it as blocked in GVoice. Once blocked In GVoice the call will never get forwarded to your cell phone.
Another advantage to using GVoice is that they maintain a built in list of known spam number that they automatically block;

Now I have taken it one step further and have a call blocking app on my phone (Extreme call blocker) that I use to also black list numbers so that even if they do get my cell phone I can block it from that end and send it directly to Voice Mail on google voice and also block it there.

The end result is I went from getting several calls a day like this to maybe 1 or 2 a month.

When they call, or better yet, WRITE THEM AT the CORPORATE OFFICE, tell them you're a major shareholder of their stock ..  and you are not happy. LOL !!!
