IRS scam. Why cant we stop these crooks?

Who said you can't? Can't catch a fish without a bite can you? Try not answering the calls in any way and see what that does. Getting an answering machine is a bite, letting the phone ring gives them nothing and they're helpless without another person.

automated computer voice , threatening an Internal revenue action against whom ?? they don't even state my name....Called already twice today...

I had a voicemail from that number and called back. Supposedly the IRS and I have a warrant out for my arrest for not paying Taxes. I played along for a while and they actually told me to drive to the bank, get $3,556 in cash and deposit it into their account. When they realized I was not at the bank and still at home, they finally hung up on me. I was disappointed that I couldn't drag it out further. Love the Indian accents too.

^^^ Same story as above.  Claimed I owed $2,000 or would be arrested.  Asked me to go ask co-workers for money while on speakerphone and "wasn't to mention the IRS or hang up the phone or they'ed arrest me."  Phishy...

Simple.  The callers are located in India and Pakistan and as such beyond the reach of US law.  Invest in a call blocker and do not pick up on calls you do not recognize.

Total scam.  Originates in either India or Pakistan.   Block and ignore.   DO NOT RETURN THE CALL!

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.   Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest.    If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

These criminals left a prerecorded message on my answering machine threatening to arrest me for non payment of taxes.  Obviously a scam and likely in foreign countries spoofing numbers. Blocked the number but as tax season approaches likely to me more of these criminal scams.
