Received a call from an Indian man who could barely speak English saying his name was Steven Alice and to call back because he was an attorney and there were legal charges. When I talked to him he said I should call David Cooper and leave all my information and gave me a phone number, this numbe was 916-212-3144. The same number he had called me from. It's a scam, I've never even been to California an when you attempt to call the number back it's a recording that says if you wish to leave a message or fax. The phone doesn't even ring just goes straight to this voicemail. Not only have I never been to California but I live in Florida, I received these calls at 8:00AM my time so 5:00AM California time. No offices anywhere are open at this time. It's a scam, I've seen precious posts for this David Cooper name and same description of the Indian man. Do not give him your info. He is just trying to scare you. I

The calls are not originating from California. They are coming from a criminal extorion ring in India, where they are using VOIP to "spoof" the numbers to make it appear they are originating from within the US. ABC News did an investigative report on this back in June. One of their ringleaders has just been indicted on criminal fraud charges by the FTC:

I received a call at my place of employment stating that I needed to call I believe it was Max Gamble or Mark Williams.  It was hard to understand.  They stated I owed their company from a loan that they were trying to collect from.  I had never heard of the company Cash Advance America.  They also stated that they needed my lawyer's information and that the police would come to my place of employment to serve me papers.  I have NO IDEA who these people are and am pretty upset about receiving this call.

This guy called my work number and said his name was Austin Phillips. My boss called me and was not happy at all.  I do not work in an office but travel so where he got my info is terrible. They need to be stopped!

Let your boss know that this is an international extortion scam and you are just one of thousands of innocent victims. Print off this thread and give it to him.

this guy called me at 830am my time which would be 630 am their time in Sacramento california saying that they have criminal charges lawsuit agains me and that i need to call back and talk to a guy named David Cooper to get the matter taken care of and trying to get me to send them some money to make it all go away and i have never been on that side of the United states. The Attorney Generals office needs to track them down and prosecute them for trying to scam and rip off innocent people .

8:30am is 8:30pm in India. The con artists have slept all day & now it's time to do a dishonest nights work. They're pulling an all-nighter- Don't answer, or call back, numbers you don't know.

Place called me 4 times left 2 threatening messages about charges and force against me.  I barely couldn't understand the guy and I could here other teleworkers making the same call in the back ground.  So I knew it wasn't a law firm.  Threatening me is a no no i do not respond well to that. I called back 4 times first time it was busy the second and third time it didn't go thru fourth time I got someone.  He claimed to be the attorney of the law firm WITH NO NAME.  Continued to try and sound professional told me he had my ssn from his client but couldn't provide it... I let him ramble for a minute then asked what was the reason for his call... He could not tell me nor could he tell me who his client was but demanded many so I began to get IGNORANT (just to oiss him off).  He hung up on me.  Now I can't get thru.

They may have blocked your number. Try calling from another number.

I received a call from an Indian man, who asked me to call back and ask for extension 121. I did an the same man answered stating he was David Foster. He claims that I have 3 criminal charges against me and that a warrant will be issued for my arrest and I will be extradited to California, by 3pm this afternoon.

He states that I took out an online loan that has not been satisfied. I have taken out one online loan, that was satisfied months ago.

I have tried to call back again and the number just rings busy. I have contacted my local police department.
I was able to speak to the Fraud Department, they gave me the number to the Federal Trade Commission,    
1-877-382-4357. I advise anyone who has receieved this phone call to contact the FTC.

Got a call today sayyng that I need to return the call now and something about my attorny and that he wished me luck his name was mark or marcus couldnt barley understand him

I received a call to my job stating I would be arrested at 3pm because of bad checks, payday loan that has not been paid and many other false charges. Any way I googled the number and saw this site!thank goodnessits a fake call. The first call was a man telling he was a paralegal for david cooper, well both these men sounded indian and they said they had been send emails which I never received. Watch out ppl. This all went down after I requested a pay day loan

Thank you guys for posting this!!!! one of my co-workers just freaked on my an hour ago and told me about the call that she received. The worse thing here is that this guy (with the Indian accent) have her private information and really scared her with the "I am a lawyer and you are gonna be arrested for not paying your debt". I looked his number and was able to find this.... is there any other place we can report this to? Thanks again!

some stupid [***] [***] calls 6 times a day. Goes by rickey jordan (what sandnig is named that) anyways tells me charges have been filed against my name . Contact immediately very time sensitive.  these people are camel [***] scum.

Scammers are using bought/hacked/phished loan application data to extort payments for fictitious debts from victims and victims' families and friends.

My husband got a call today from David Cooper who said he was an attorney from California. Said if my husband didn't pay 300.00 by 3:00 today they would come and arrest him on 3 felony counts. Said he owed for a cash advance that he did not pay back. He never got a cash advance.

received a call from them at my job today before close time. they were yelling at the manager demanding to speak to me. like wtf. i got on the phone he screamed at me. like very inappropriate time & place to call me. at 9:50pm at my job. business hours are supposed to be from 8am till 4pm. no business is open so late at night.
