- Marcia| 4 repliesThe caller said that his name was Robert Jackson and he was with law enforcement. He said to lay down whatever I was doing and call the number that he gave me. He said that if I didn't call this number all he could do was wish me a happy life. He was trying to scare me into thinking that the law was after me.

- Amelia| 4 repliesSame as the others. Foreign accent, said he was with law enforcement. He said to lay down whatever I was doing and call the specific number. If I don't call the number all he could do was wish me a happy life. My local state law enforcement will be arriving at my door.
- Alfalfa replies to Amelia| 1 replyThis is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

- HortensiaCalled my cell phone. Message from "Legal Affairs". Want return call and if I do not, have a good life. Wow. Learn how we talk if you want to intimidate. Tried to call from *67ed land line. Went into fast busy signal.
- Caller: Legal Affairs Scammer
- Call type: Prank
- Hortensia| 2 repliesAs mentioned in previous post, my attempts to contact with *67 was not successful on the land line or cell phone. When there was a message in the cell phone today, decided to confront. Conversation was a bit amusing:
Him: Dept of Legal Affairs. How may I help you?
Me: I received a call from this phone number.
Him: Who is this?
Me: Shouldn't you know? You called me.
Him: This is Officer (unintelligible) of the Dept of Legal Affairs with the US Treasury.
Me: US Treasury? Which agency?
Him: US Treasury
Me: There are several agencies under the US Treasury. Which one?
Him: Dept of Legal Affairs
Me: There is no Dept of Legal Affairs. I used to work for the US Treasury. ( I am retired from an agency, Thank God)
Him: unintelligible, probably scoffing.
Me: Excuse me
Him: Since you worked for the US Treasury, what is your badge number?
Me: (Steaming, responded with steel in voice) Let's cut to the chase, you are not getting any money from me, you thief. I terminated call.
Appears to be a variation of the IRS scam. He attempted to be stern in his tone and would probably intimidate a senior citizen. May Karma strike him. Hopefully, no additional calls. I have a "Star Trek" cell phone and cannot block. Upgrading soon.- Caller: Dept of Legal Affairs (Ha)

- zinory replies to AlfalfaTook your advice and called or bank. We got the same message saying the same thing but we didn't call back.
- AnonUnrelenting calls from "Mike Watson" - over 20 calls in one hour today - threatening residents at this number and attempting to extort money. Used profane language, hung up several times and continued to call back repeatedly. Filed police report and called phone company. Verbally abusive, taunting every single time he called. Would not allow us to speak to his supervisor. He had a Pakistani accent and could not even spell "Mike Watson" his supposed name. We warned him not to call again and advised him the police would be arriving to file a report to which he laughed and taunted, asking "Oh big deal. What are you going to do." Hung up on me and called back several more times telling us to respect him. His claim is to be from the "Department of Legal Affairs" and refused to indicate a location, branch or other identifiable information. He was told not to call back every single time he called and refused to comply. Police report filed, FTC notified. Officer attempted to contact the individual at the number and received a fast busy signal.
- Caller: Department of Legal Affairs
- anon replies to JackieExcellent idea.
- anon replies to HortensiaHe tried intimidating us when calling repeatedly. Used vile language and was ill prepared to handle the ensuing verbal confrontation.
Most people do not follow through with complaints against these idiots, so they continue to stalk and threaten the elderly. - anonI am super sick of receiving these calls, similar to all posters above. I have also received multiple calls in one day from this same organization. If not answered, a variation of or the standard recorded voicemail is left informing me that the "Department of Legal Affairs" would have "the law enforcement team on my case at my door" if I did not return the call. Previously I've always just blocked the numbers, which are routed through NY and/or CA, but this time I called back. I spoke with a man who had a heavy Pakistani-like accent, simply telling him to stop calling and that I would be reporting his misrepresentation. He refused to acknowledge my statements and I disconnected. Filed report for this number with National DNC Registry and also with FTC. If you file with FTC (go to: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/), please feel free to reference my case report number as associated with your complaint: 61677298.
