- on dnc916-295-6098 = caller id = Lincoln CA = bogus collection agency for someone I never heard of; and very nasty response when I tell them; and hang up when I ask to speak to supervisor; wish English was his first language as call would have been a lot clearer...ugh...I don't owe anyone any money, retired, have had same phone number for 3 decades plus; this is a scam otherwise I could have straightened out with a supervisor!

- Me| 1 replyThe a**holes from ECMC are still calling. How many different numbers do they use? It comes in as "unknown" or "out of area." Hey, Eckmuck, if you want a better chance of someone answering your crap calls, at least display your company name in Caller ID. But people, if you don't recognize the caller's name/number, don't answer it! Let it go to voice mail, or just ring until they're tired of waiting. 916 seems to be a dead giveaway it's Eckmuck.

- StazI think this dated bloomberg report explains it http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2012-0 ... g-student-loans I think it's obscene that the governments involvement and placing a bounty on student loans that allow collection agencies and their personnel the ability to prey on consumers, entire families, friends, and others. http://www.bbb.org/minnesota/business-reviews ... ale-mn-20001771 shows business category: loans. These are exactly the kind of predators that should be covered under unfair, deceptive, abusive acts, practices (UDAAP) within the Dodd Frank Act, state and federal FDCPA, FCRA, and others. Read up on rights included under CFPB and stop their predatory, deceptive, abusive acts and practices.
- BigA replies to MeEven if they are collecting student loans, they are required to follow FDCPA regulations as well as any state laws. I have never advocated hiding from a DC that has an viable address and can be served by certified mail.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
