- Alfalfa replies to Chief J.M. HartsockThis is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
ABC News released an investigative report on this scam in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:

- kim kI have also received a phone call from this "lawfirm" and he got very rude with me when I told him can I speak with someone in charge who can speak english and they knew the last 4 of my social and my address. After that I reported it with the authorities and the officer calmed me down and told me it was a scam. After talking with the detective the scammer called again and told me that an Fbi agent will be at my home Monday to serve me documents. I didn't answer or call back but seeing how many people have been affected by this scammer made me feel better knowing that sooner or later these people will be caught.

- BILLIEI got a call from this number telling me that i have criminal chargers filed against me and asked if i had an attorney. When I asked what he was talking about he was like you dont know then you need to call Mark i couldnt understand what the last name was but the number he gave me was the same number that called me. He even told me that if i didnt call this Mark dude that i would have cops come to my house or job. How can i stop them from calling me..........
- KristinFour phone calls in a span of 5 minutes came into my cell this morning. Two messages were left - one that was dead air and the other was full of threats. In that second voice mail, they said the I or my attorney should call them back within 3 hours or they were sending out a sheriff to come out and arrest me. He repeated my home address and mentioned that he knew my bank's name. If I didn't call back, that I better take care because they were coming to get me. Even though I looked up the number and saw the whole thing was a scam I still got upset. I called the local police department. I told them what was said and gave them the phone number I received. The police said that it was a scam that seems to be going on around here. They are sending out someone so I can file a police report and formal complaint.

- AngelaThis person with a heavy indian accent called me at work and my cell stating he is Steven Ellis an attorney...made threats of me being arrested for check fraud..very rude...kept pressing the issue that it is an emergency that I pay them. Had the same thing happen with this other number 786-528-3069...said his name was Michael Steven Davis...swear it was the exact same person....making same threats! Been told to not answer calls from these people and to let my employer know to not accept these calls from these people. Crazy....telling me a loan co. deposited money in my account and now they are getting nsf and I better pay or I'm going to jail!! I don't know of any loan co. that's going to just deposit money in your account without some type of comfirmation from you that it's ok!!!
- LMI got the same message from Indian people calling me at work and threaten me. This is a scam!!! Block the number and report it.
- kaleyI got the same phone call saying he was Brian Davis. Have any of you recently cancelled auto insurance or some other service? I noticed as soon as I cancelled my policy with 21st I started getting a ridiculous amount of spam emails and phone calls for payday loans, including this guy telling me I was facing legal action for a payday loan I never took out. Read fine print with companies you do deal with on what information the give out. This is getting really annoying
- Caller: scam
- Richard TrombleyI got a message on my cell phone voice mail to call these people back. I could not understand anything the guy said on the message except for the phone number. I could tell there were threats and it sounded very serious. When I called the number, the guy said his name was Mike Campbell and that there was $3000.00 put in my bank account that I never paid back from a payday loan. He told me I would be arrested in the morning by my local police and they would see me in court. The guy also said they were going to call my employer to make them aware that I was guilty of Grand Larceny Theft. The guy had a very heavy foreign accent. I did make my boss aware since I did not know at the time what was going to happen. I knew I did not have $3000.00 magically appear in any account of mine. I called my wife and told her what was going on. She listened to the message that was left on my voice mail and decided to go online and type in the phone number only to find this is a scam. Thank god, but how sad that someone is getting away with this. Imagine how many people pay on the spot and again, these people are getting away with it! Makes me mad!!!!
