- Chris| 1 replyGot latter part of a voice mail message which started mid-sentence with "to inform you that IRS is filing lawsuit against you..." and to call the Agency phone number. And I see under Latest Forum Threads a thread with title "IRS Warns of Telephone Scam", so I'll check that out next.
- Caller: IRS?
- Stacy replies to ChrisScam...everybody got that message yesterday
- SandyA robo-call at least twice a day since yesterday informing that this is "the final notice of a lawsuit the IRS has filed against us" and we should call this number.
- Tommy| 1 replyDifferent spoofed Call-ID each and every day for three straight days calling at least twice a day. Early in the morning before 7:30am and every afternoon at around 4:00pm for three straight days. Just got another one with yet another spoofed Caller-ID number just now. Which no doubt means these same jackholes will be calling again later this afternoon.
We don't answer unrecognized Caller-ID's, ever, so we let the answering machine screen unrecognized calls. Each and every time these scumbags call a recorded robotic voice says something about a "...lawsuit filed against you" and says to call "their office" at 917-387-4638 "for more information". All utter bull excrement, of course. No way we're going to call the number back, either. Even if you use a 'block caller-id' feature when you make outgoing phone calls, the call spamming scumbags on their computers can still access and retrieve your true caller-id and phone number. Even our local gas & electric company as well as our water service providers can do so with their automated systems.
Today's incoming spoofed Caller-ID is "Unavailable 405-800-0001". Yesterday's spoofed Caller-ID was "Unavailable 000-000-2680", and the day before yesterdays was "Unavailable Out-of-Area". So, you can't even block them with any type of call-blocking service/device whatsoever. Every single call has left the exact same message on the answer machine imploring us to call them back at the exact same phone number that is apparently based in or near Queens, New York.- Caller: Unknown Doodyheads

- RichardReceived a call yesterday on my answer machine stating it was the IRS and to call to get case #. Didn't call from home, but called from anther #. A person with foreign accent, sounded oriental, answered, I asked what kind of scam he was trying to pull. Stated trying to screw you, and hung up.
- Shae| 2 repliesI received a phone call this morning from a number that came up on our home phone call ID as "Private Number". The call was only a recorded message saying that it was the IRS, Internal Revenue Service, & they have a warrant out for my arrest. I found it odd, because they felt the need to explain what IRS stood for. :) There was no one to speak to & all they left was a phone number to call them back at, which as 917-387-4638. My husband called the 917 area code number back from his work number just to be safe. When he did, the foreign-speaking man on the other end of the line asked for the phone number where the call was received. After giving the man our home number, he was able to pull up my husband's name & our home address. He proceeded to tell my husband that we owe $7,000 in back taxes & that he would be arrested if not paid. My husband just laughed it off & the man proceeded to say that there would be sheriff coming out to our address as they spoke to arrest him.
Just be forewarned if you do receive this message & you end up calling them back, to not give them any personal bank, wiring information or credit card information, because they are working a scam & are preying on the fear of those who will relent & give them personal bank information. My husband never made it that far into the conversation, but please make people aware that this is going on. The IRS would never handle situations like this, just FYI.- Caller: Private Number

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.
The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.
By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.
Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.
They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.
Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.
The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.
If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.
http://money.cnn.com/2015/01/22/pf/taxes/irs-tax-scams/ - Astrolyre replies to TommyTommy, you should be able to block all of those numbers with the right device. I do it with a cordless phone that blocks up to 250 numbers, even if the number is faked or spoofed. And it can block callers with no phone number, like UNKNOWN, PRIVATE, and OUT OF AREA. Plus, when a call is blocked, the phone doesn't ring at all (it's called 'Block first ring' on this phone). It only cost about $60 with two phones and a base. That's all you need - a modern telephone - to block these malicious pests.
- chrissame scam as the others IRS back taxes sending sheriff to get me
- Caller: "IRS"

- not important replies to ShaeI received several of these messages over the past week and decided to call back from a different number. The number answered as the IRS. I asked for the employee name and badge number and was told #707791, the name I could not quite get because of the foreign accent. He put me on hold while he looked up my file then returned asking what number I received the call at. I asked why doesn't the IRS send out notices about a lawsuit? He responded that they do. I indicated I would wait for the notice and disconnected the call.
I have reported this to phishing@irs.gov and http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml - AngelaIt was a computer recording saying this was the final notice. The IRS has filed a law suit against.... I needed to call this number back for what ever reason. I searched the number online and it showed a scam.

- SusieI have had two calls today from 917-387-4638. It is a recorded message. The scam is so bad that you can detect the Asian accent immediately. The message, like others said, gives the definition for IRS. I found it funny, but may not be so funny for people who are vulnerable and may believe it. I blocked this number with my phone. I'm anxious to see what number shows up next with the same message.
