This phone number is calling to do fund raising for the New York State Fraternal Order of Police. I have called the number.  It directs you to a customer service department that can answer questions, help you donate, or anything else related to the FOP. Also, there’s information on www.nysfop.com, you can contact them there with any questions or requests.
The FOP is doing a lot of really great things for New York police officers and the people that call are trying to help them raise money so they can do even more good.

Note the percentage of the amount that goes to the charity is on average about 25% only. Most of the money you give goes to the telemarketing. I just don't answer the call.

This is absolutely a fraud.  I come from a family of NYC police officers and this is a fraud. When I informed them I am a police officer they hung up immediately.

I constantly receive calls from this number. I have told them several times not to call, but they still do. If I do not pick up, there is no message left. I'm glad that someone has at least identified them as fraudulent. If they call again, I, too, will say I'm with the NYPD.

*Never* give donations to a stranger who calls you. Might be a scammer. Might be a legit independent fund raiser who keeps 90% for themselves and sends 10% to the charity. Best to find what charity they are collecting for, research the charity to make sure it's legit, get charity contact info from an independent source, then donate *directly* to the charity so they will get 100% of your donation.

My phone number has been on the Do Not Call registry since August 18, 2009.  In the past I have told FOP NY that I will not donate money over the telephone for any reason and to take me off their list, but I still get phone calls from them.
