    (917) 477-3868, female computer-generated voice left an "IRS, we are suing you" message, with no indication of who the call was for. When I called the number, the Indian-accented male voice that answered after +10 rings asked for my info, and hung up when I refused to give it. I called back (on another line) and let it ring for +20 rings: a "British" accented voice said "The person you are trying to reach is unavailable. Please leave a message after the beep." PRETTY sure this is a scam!

I got the same call and no answer when I called back. I think it's a scam. This was the first time they called (but they were warning me that they've been trying to reach me). I have nothing in writing and have always been honest with the IRS. Smelling like a SCAM!

It is a scam. It was featured on CBS News earlier this week and the report is still available on their website. Report this scam here:

Thank you, Mike. They called again and this time I talked to them. The first guy sounded like he was from another country and there was lots of static in the call and hard to hear. Every time I challenged him with a verification question, he would act like he couldn't hear me. I got disconnected. When I called back, it was busy. I called back again, busy. Third time they hung up on me. I called one last time and they person was able to tell me my name and address. They said they had an arrest warrant on me for $3420 unpaid taxes. They said it was too late to send a check and asked if I had the money. They said it;s too late to pay by credit card, I told them no, I did not have the money. They sounded surprised and said, "you don't have the money?" Then he asked if I had enough money in my credit card to get a cash advance. I told him no and that I would call IRS directly. He said it was up to me if I want to pay and that he couldn't force me and just hung up.

3/7/15 received a call stating they were from the IRS and "this was their final attempt to collect a debt owed to them".  This is complete and utter bull chap because I KNOW THAT THE "REAL" IRS WOULD NEVER CALL YOU OR THREATEN YOU ON THE PHONE!!  They will ALWAYS send a letter to your place of residence.  DO NOT RETURN THIS CALL!!

Female voice left a voicemail stating that this was the IRS and that a lawsuit is being filed against us.  Upon returning the call, there was no answer.

Also received computer generated call leaving 917 call back number. I know from personal experience that this is not how the IRS operates.  Reported it as a scam call to the US Treasury

Just called them back. No answer. Filed treasury.gov fraud claim and also called my state's attorney general office with the details. Habib and his band of thieves is about to get shut down. Back to the camel they go.

Like others, was a female robot voice claiming to be the IRS.  IRS cannot do any business by phone (I tried to once years ago for a real IRS issue); everything they do is through letters.
