917-503-2902 called from New York location on 10/28/14. Said he was Michael Morrison from IRS. SAYING WE MISFILED OUR TAXES. and we would be taken to court by the IRS  we need to call them back.  Also heavy accent.

Also got a call from Michael stating we misfiled our taxes ... Called back spoke to a supposed SHerry Jones where she told us all of our assets would be frozen, wages garnished, if we didn't go to the store buy visa cards 4 in the amount of 500 and one in the amount of 400 and call her back immediately .. .fake case number and everything BE AWARE

we received a message while we were out this afternoon.  it goes something like this:  This call is for [calls us by name] this is Shirley Jones from auditing from department of IRS and you have (unintelligible) $3000 taxes from 2008 to 2010. We sent you a letter in April and you had 60 days to respond and we are going to file a lawsuit. you have to call me back immediately at 917-503-2902.
I suspect a scam because 1. no one sent a letter. 2. these taxes are over 3 years ago. 3. the "IRS"  calls themselves the Department of the Treasury, or Internal Revenue. and they NEVER give their names; they give you a badge number. It is not called the "Department of IRS".
my spouse tried to call them back and got a message machine or something you cant hear what they are saying. I think I will take the suggestion of the person above and report to magic jack.  how does he know it is a magic jack number?

I got the same type of message as KRYS did. First I needed to send $850 3 times each, then they said send $500 and than $200 for the next nine months.  The person who left the message was Andy, than I talked to Jessica and than they transferred me to Michael Parker.  He said I need to get the money and than call him back at 917-503-202, ext. 85  to make arrangements to meet and pay the money.  They said they were from the department of the IRS.  

Received same call; 3 times in 2 days.  Very heavy accent (Philippines?).  Says they are from IRS and something misfiled on our taxes.  I called back and they answer the phone saying they are the IRS.  (They answered on third ring - DEFINITELY not IRS.)  First call answered by "Sherry Jones".  After a few questions from me, she hung up.  I called right back and after asking 3 times, "Jack" was answering from the "security department of the IRS."  Few questions from me, he hung up as well.  Also in one of the messages, I was told that if I didn't call back right away they would freeze my bank account.  I'm writing this because I do not want anyone, especially an elderly person, to get caught in this SCAM!!!!  How do we report this crap?

Just received the same message on my voice mail at home.  Had my name and I could not understand much more other than IRS and lawsuit.  Called the number back, when I asked the name of the company they hung up.

Just had the same call. Heavy accent....sounded middle-eastern; I couldn't understand the man's name. I had a few similar calls from a female, different number. Said I was sent letters in Jan & Mar and I didn't respond; now, there's a lawsuit against me. He kept asking me if I had a lawyer and to provide my lawyer's phone number. He said they would be sending the Sheriff. When I said I couldn't do anything over the phone, they hung up. It sounded like he said this started in 2008; I don't believe the IRS goes back more than 3 years. I work for the government and if there was a problem like this, my wages would have been garnished long before this.

Got a call from a david audit commision of irs  said they would sue me into the court house  those exact words

You have misfiled taxes, and his name was David from the IRS collection dept, from the year 2008-2012 and if you don't call back, we are going to sue you into the courthouse, no kidding, this is what he said. We laughed so hard, we almost wet ourselves. The number they gave us to call 917-503-2902. Funny stuff for sure. I think they need fraud/how to rip off people refresher courses or something!!!

Called me 11/5/2014 said I was going to jail for wrong taxes 2008-2012. My caller was Angela could not understand half of what she said. Oh well.

Received a second call telling me the same thing - misfiled taxes, bringing a lawsuit, need to pay them money.  Said I had signed for a letter back in January telling me the issues, and since I did not respond to the letter they were taking me to court and would garnish any income and take my assests.  I asked for a copy of the letter with my signature on it and she said she could not give me one.  When I told her I had already contacted the IRS about this and to stop calling me, she immediately hung up on me.

Just received this call also...Seems to be a scam..first off had to listen to it 3xs before i could understand the person's accent and 2nd I doubt the IRS would say if I don't return the call they will " sue me all the way to the courthouse" LOL i would think the IRS would be abit more professional!!

Received a call from Sherry Jones, heavy accent and very rude said I owed the IRS and they were filing a law suit against me and I could pay them cash today, no credit cards  to avoid them freezing all my accounts. What a scam

Received 2 calls from this number I missed the first one. He left a very unprofessional
Message. He spoke with an indian accent claimed to be IRS he said I misfiled my taxes from 2008-2012. Well he called me today he asked if I was me I said yes. Then I said is this the scam artist calling from a magic jack number he said uh yes ok bye bye total scam don't fall for it

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427).
