Claimed that they were calling from Legal Dept of US Treasury and that there was a warrant out for my arrest unless I paid back taxes due.
Told the morons that if they wanted to scam US Citizens they should at the very least....learn to speak English properly.

they called me twice today (2 different callers) leaving messages saying that I am in a "legal mess" and if I chose not to call back I should hire an attorney.  Callers are foreign and one started their message with "Hey Lindsay".  You gotta be kidding me.

There is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.
USA tax payers should read this:
    http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Reiterate ... -Telephone-Scam

    Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

    Educational post:
This scam is also described as scam #11, here:
    http://phonehelp.2truth.com/facts_rev.html

Remember to return here, to 800notes.com, after you look at any of the information at that site, either to post more information, or to let us know you avoided the scam, or to read any further information about that number that others may post.

They called and left a similar message, I think they said from the US Treasury Department. It was really hard to understand the man speaking and you could hear many callers in the back ground.

    GoodMorning
Just received a phone call from a man with an Indian accent calling himself Kevin Smith - 917 - 503 - 3821. He claimed I owe $3,400 or something like that from 2010. Apparently, my accountant didn't do the right thing and I am going to be arrested and sentenced to 6 months in jail. There is nothing my attorney or accountant can do about it. Claimed he is calling from 321 34th Street, Winter Haven, Florida 30041 and his Employee ID with the government is 10012. Said he is with the US Treasury.

Will report this to the Attorney General in New York State. The phone number is a 917 which is New York area code but the address is Florida.

If anyone else has this experience please contact the Attorney General in New York. The more people bring this to the attention of proper government officials the better.

Similar story to all who logged on here.I Found site looking up this number.Caller identified himself as a James Franklin(heavy Indian accent) and gave me this call back number for my husband.I asked for info Re:Call. He then stated the US Treasury Dept.and it involved a legal case. When I probed him for more info, he said my husband would give me all info after he called him back.He clearly started to get upset when I questioned him about the ? why of the call without official letter coming from the Treasury Dept. first . He told me emails were sent and I told him none were ever received and US Treasury would not call.He then said in 45 minutes agents would come to our home with arrest warrants. I hung up with the reply"Bring them on-this is a scam!!!"

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

I got the same call, and they left a message, also claiming the caller's name was Suzanne Rogers, with thic cal back number, and the message also began with "Hey, [my first name]. I was grateful to see this scam reported here, and apparently reported as an unwanted call multiple times. It is strange that with this much detail and the same phone number to call back the scam has not been stopped.

a call from: 917-503-3821...did not pickup, just listened on the answering machine. A lot of background noises and a man speaking very low with thick accent. I couldn't understand what he was trying to say after several attempts to listen. It was only after I looked up the number and came to this site and read what others reported what they heard, I then realized what it was all about! He said his name was Jack Marshal from the IRS.

Reading from a script from by a man claiming to be James Finding of the Dept of Legal Affairs of the U.S. Treasury

His script included some of the following, even though he could not pronounce my name:
    (1) That his name is James Finding
    (2) Told me to have my retainer attorney that might end up in a legal mess for me.

I called the number back, and was told they were going to send officers over to arrest me.  I quickly replied that they were not from the U.S. Treasury and wanted to know the true nature of the call. To retrieve my social security number? The call was quickly terminated by the caller.

Received a call today from (917) 503-8518 and when I picked up it hanged up so I called back right away. Some guy that picked up said this is United States Treasury and there is warrant ID for me and Case # that he gave me and said he will transfer me to some higher up guy to discuss my case before police shows up at my door to make arrest.  Typical bull***t scam and it took quite some effort to speak English properly and even then it was obvious they were foreign scammers.

Not sure if they call from outside of the U.S. or this is from within the country but it is pathetic. This # showed up on my iPhone as from NY, USA so i'm curious where it actually originates from.

This is not the first time either, I've received similar calls couple times before, once on the home phone as well and that one was from IRS collecting taxes.

The caller is probably in India or Pakistan (and certainly not the U.S. treasury or the IRS).  IGNORE the call.
