- RSG| 1 replySynthesized voice recording from "Internal Revenue Service" informing of "legal petition notice concerning tax fraud division against your name. So before this matter goes to the Federal Claims Court house kindly call us on the same number".
Caller ID showed "NEW YORK NY". For the record, real calls from the IRS would show the agency name spelled out on CID, plus there would be a reference number as well as an agent name with an actual extension.- Caller: Spammer

- PalilaClaimed to be a call about their having received a legal petition notice about tax fraud evasion(?) and if I did not call back immediately I would be taken to court. Then wished me a nice day!

- CWG40 replies to ChrisYes, a lot of people. I get those calls about once a week. Ignore them. Total scam. I'm an Enrolled Agent iwth the IRS (inactive) and I can tell you the IRS does not cold call people about tax disputes. Tax evasion is a crime. It would be handled by federal authorities and you'd be well aware of it from IRS and law enforcement if it was real.
Anyway this scam. originates in either India or Pakistan.

IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and ask for money. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail. - CWG40 replies to John L.It can't be stopped. Call blocker is pretty much your only defense. Not perfect but it does help.
