Left a message that they were going to arrest me for failure to pay my IRS taxes.  This was a "final notice".  Since I don't owe the IRS  any money, and knowing that the IRS would never leave a message like this - I know it's a scam.

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

Amazing that criminals in Asia know exactly how much prison time you would get, after not even appearing in court. I wonder if they are drawing on life experience? As you know, a very well known scam.

The number says it's calling from New York.  But they could be anywhere.  They have been bugging me for months.  I have tried to call back, and no one ever answers. I hope they get caught, and that they haven't scammed anyone.

Just got a call saying I owed IRS 2591.00 if I didn't pay I would have a warrant out for my arrest and they were sending federal marshalls to come get me in 45 mins and send me to jail for 6 months.  Since I don't owe IRS anything this is a scam, told them to do what they must and hung up.

I just received a message telling me to call this number, same message as the other posts, I just hung up, not worth the energy of giving it any other thought. I wanted to post this so people will know to ignore it.

I knew better then to believe a call saying this is official and final notice from IRS. The IRS does nt conduct business in this way. And they always send notices in the mail if there was an issue. I hope nobody falls for this scam.

Voicemail left on cellphone to pay before going to federal claims court and being arrested.  Told to call 917-979-2153 ASAP.  Did not call.  Was only a partial message and thought it was a scam.  Apparently as others above have stated, it is.

Just got the I am going to get arrested bc I owe the IRS $2300.31. I have 1 hour to call them back at a number that doesn't answer. I know for a fact the IRS doesn't call they send you a certified/return receipt letter via USPS. If phone companies can provide the spoofing technology, why can't the just disable it? Reason: It is a huge money maker for the phone companies.

Some foreign piece of garbage called me and told me I didn't pay taxes in 2011 and I owed the government $3,000.  This is a scam. If this idiot calls you just hang up the phone.  The guy can barely speak proper English. I just want to know how this moron got my information.

These are criminal extortionists operating out of overseas boiler rooms using computers to dial numbers from 000-999 and alter their identities and locations.

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.

If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.
