mr. v - 8 Sep 2007got a call from this # saying that i should call HSBC Card Services Fraud Department as my card may be deactivated until i verify some information. it also instructed that i should have my card handy with me. they left me another # (1-888-289-3585) to call but the # is not available on the weekends. strange to me so i am trying to determine its veracity.

The Horta - 25 Sep 2007We just received a call from this number as well. Once they called both my home and office lines we answered it. It was indeed HSBC's Visa Fraud Department. They simply wanted to verify that a number of large charges we had made during the day (ordering expensive equipment online) were being made by us and not an unauthorized party. They did not request any card information or anything of the sort. Once we reassured them that the charges were ours all was OK.

Ruth - 3 Dec 2007I also had this situation and was concerned. I called the main #800 for the credit card to which they said it is one of the #s they use. My information was on the main frame that I spoke with him. So now not worried that my checking account will be cleaned out.
