- markspike| 2 repliesScammers. Claim to be from a non-existing "mediation" firm called Howard & Steiner and as soon as I said 'This smells like a scam' (knowing that it was) Antonia Carter, in her heavy Latina accent got angry and started yelling that they would just follow through with legal action and hung up on me.
I love it since I recently applied for a vehicle loan (approved, BTW) and as son as you do it, the scammers start showing up.
As a side note, I love my new-to-me '08 Ford F-150 4x4!

- DanGot a message from this number and when I returned it the lady asked for my phone number to find out what someone had called about. I had to ask 3 times for who they were before she said Howard & Steiner. I asked what they do and she said several types of mediation. This woman was very very rude and didn't like my questions. Definitely not someone operating a legitimate business.
- Caller: Howard & Steiner

- Wow!| 2 repliesI received the same call, She said if I didnt comply I would be arrested... so I did some research . The company Howard & Steiner associates is really "Howard Steiner " which is a dentist office in OK city . I received the call from an Antonia Jones and she seemed to be getting really annoyed, when I asked a few questions and she told me when I figure out to call them back. Lol. I also asked for the contact info of the place that was "forwarding" my complaint and they checked I have no record with them! So pretty much the moral of the story is : "SCAM"!!!

- Alfalfa replies to wowHow can I verify whether or not a debt collector is legitimate?
Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:
The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.
The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.
The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.
The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.
Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.
Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.
Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.
Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).
http://www.consumerfinance.gov/ - Mark| 1 replyI received a call from this number (918) 602-4011 stating they were Howard and Steiner Mediation and there was a complaint filed. I needed to call them back as soon as possible or they would file and document against me. I called them and got a voice mail. Told them to call me back and that I believe they are scammers. Guess what? No call back! Haha...
- Nova MonroeSo, we got the typical message from mrs carter. So, knowing it was a scammer, I called it. I was ready. Apparently they have a complaint against my brother, who is 3. Um, yeah. I told her that my brother wasnt home. The guy asked me for his attorney's phone number, so, I gave them the local police department's number. My friend works for the local PD and he told me to do this.
I wish I could see the scammers face when the PD answers their phone.
I hope it works and they stop calling- Caller: H&S
- anonymousThis supposed company called me 4 times today, my voice mail specifically states if the name of the person you are trying to reach is not left your call will not be returned, well none of the messages left a name so I blocked my caller ID and called them back I called until someone answered (took 6 back to back calls) I guess they don't like being harassed. They asked for the # that they had been calling, I gave it to them, they gave me the name of who they were trying to reach and it is someone I had never heard of, I told them if I get another call from them I'll be taking legal action (the guy of course got smart with me and i just hung up) and I fully intend to do so.

I asked for their credentials and reference numbers and they refused to give me that information. So I asked for an address so that I can address the company. The guy "scott" said the address was 1204 South West 1018th street, Oklahoma City. I googled the address and surprise, no such address found! SCAMMERS.
