- Irritated with Duke replies to MarkYou can call them back and pressing a few options will add you to their Do Not Call list. It's some crap about their energy saver program.
- CandaceThey called me on a Friday and then a Saturday. No message left.
- LeslieDuke Energy -- I hung up on them...

- Jack MaloneCalled me today - Saturday - at 1:38 PM EDT. Young female starts off saying she is calling from Duke Energy and wants to offer me their "Energy Wise Home Program". I told her I get that crap offer in the mail every time I get my bill and damn sure don't need them calling me about it. I don't want anybody controlling my air conditioner but ME. Obviously some bunch of yahoos Duke has contracted with to harass people on Saturdays.

- Tim Harrison| 3 repliesYes, Duke Energy calling about this program. I also know all about it because they separate mailers. I did learn that 1) they do not need access to the house, and 2) you can cancel the program at any time. I signed up. Why not. We can always cancel. And I'm excited to be part of a smarter energy system. I'm not saying I love Duke Energy, I'm just saying having all our air conditioners "play nice" is a worthwhile experiment.

- Anon replies to Tim Harrison| 1 replyWhy not? Because when you sign up for something from a telemarketer, you are encouraging telemarketing. When you signed up, you increased the perceived effectiveness of these calls (from Duke's point of view), so the rest of us will get them more.
This is completely separate from the merits of the program. Even if the program is great, fine, sign up for it on their website or using one of the umpteen flyers you get with your bills. But never, ever agree to anything a telemarketer asks you to do. If it's legitimate, there will always be other ways to get what they're offering that don't help telemarketing look better to those making the decisions about how to market. - ButchI used to live in a different area of the state. We had a similar program (Duke Power at that time) that gave us a better rate if we allowed to cut the water heater and A/C at times. When we moved to this new area and still served by what was once Duke Power, we called to see if we could enroll in the same program here. We were astonished to be told that the newer version of Duke Power (Duke Energy--now Duke Energy Progress) had no such program. We've survived for over 10 years and now we turn a deaf ear to their Saturday-morning hassling phone calls.
They didn't want us in 2002. We don't want them in 2015.- Caller: Duke Energy

- Shaquille Dean| 1 replyI got a call from a young man named Shaquille Dean with Duke Energy. He was trying to get me to sign up for some Home Saver program. I asked for a callback number and he could not give me one. It comes up as a Benson, NC number so I was skeptical. He continued to tell me more about the program ($25 credit per year), then asked if I had central air and heat. I asked again for a callback number and he said that he could set it up for someone to call me after 5pm, but that they don't have a callback number. Very odd.

- DECProgress removed all their energy saver equipment from our home around 2005. Saving a few bucks a month was not worth them cutting off our A/C and water heater in the middle of the day in the summer, and in the middle of the night in the winter. Was so glad when they removed all their control boxes.
Now they want to put them back on? No way. Complete pain. And, they do need access in your home to install the box on your water heater. No thanks.- Caller: Duke Progress

- Steve Hauter replies to Tim Harrisongood luck to you bud when they cut the power to your air conditioner off when it is 100 degrees outside.
How damn nice will your air conditioners be playing?
I have enough sense to know when to run my own air conditioner. Its called when you're hot DA. - skipReceived call from 919-701-3472....Left message was not understandable. Sounded like several people were talking in the background.

- RyanI rang my Duke Energy customer no-service and they advised that 919-701-3472 is not one of their numbers. It would appear that the agent I spoke to knew what he was talking about because he spoke english very well.
- TinaI am getting several calls from this number and I am on the national do not call list.

- GScottJGot a call from this number yesterday with a CID of "DUKEENERGYPROG". Like others, I get enough of their crap in my bills about their programs, and don't want to need them calling me. I know that they can call because I use their service (i.e., Do not call list allows for your service providers to call you.), but I can still block their number so I don't have to be bothered any longer.
