- robin| 1 replyThese fools called my phone and left a message for my husband stating that they have a criminal claim against him if he doesnt call back within 24hrs. he will have a criminal claim filed against him. the idiots are so stupid. for one my husband is incarcerated and for two if you guys want to scam someone stop getting your information from people who have tried to apply for online payday loans and scare them with you have a claim against them. when the get you on the line they will tell you that you owe a certain amount of money and then say that you have to send the money or someone will serve you at your job. come idiots no ones falling for it.

- kyle| 1 replySo called Peter Steinberg. Claims to be the Chief investigations Officer at state to state investigations. The number has a Wisconsin area code and he claims to be in a county 1000 miles away. Left a long message with personal information on an individual at a wrong number, stating what the previous posts report. No valid and legally operating Law enforcement agency would do that. Criminal charges need to be filed against this scam artist.

- Alfalfa replies to kyleThis is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
ABC News released an investigative report on this scam in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:
