This is a scam! A person named Jason Lee called saying he was from Citimortgage and that he was working on my loan modification. He told me that if I didn't pay the amount in 30 minutes (before their payment dept closed) then my modification would be cancelled. He wanted me to rush out and get a Moneygram. I got curious and looked up the number and saw other people had been scammed by this person. He knew my name, address, and that I had applied for a loan modification. He had also been calling and leaving messages so it seemed legit. But, after the pressure he put me under to get the money, I got suspicious.  He called me later and left a mean voicemail telling me that my modification is cancelled and he will not help me anymore. I called my mortgage company and confirmed that Jason Lee is a scam.

Same thing!  I just received a call & like the others, he said he was from Chase.  Only thing is, I had already been told my modification had been denied but he said this was something new & that I was approved for a lower payment & if I paid March-April-May on at the new amount on time, my mortgage would be permanently set at the new, lower amount.  I told him I'd call him back & then got to thinking that it just didn't make sense to me so I called Chase & spoke with my personal customer service rep who said she'd never heard anything like this that Chase doesn't take debit cards which is what Mr. Jason Lee wanted from me for the $200 to secure the modification.  She said the number he called from was a Chase # but it was Chase On-Line support.  It was not the number he gave as a call back, this 940 # is the call back # he gave.

Go to your local police department and make a complaint of fraud.

Make a report to the moneygram people of fraud.

    Make a complaint here:  http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx

Back due property taxes should ONLY be paid to the local government agency that collects taxes.  Nobody else.  You can't tell if the monies will be turned over to the property governmental agency.

Never use untraceable financial instruments to pay bills.

Things to remember about loans offered by phone or e-mail:  (Pay  attention to item #4!)

    Loans
    1.    No reputable lender will lend you money over   the   phone.
    2.    No reputable lender will lend you money by e-mail
    3.    On-line lenders are nothing more than conduits for another loan scam.
    4.    Advance fees for loans are always illegal.    At  least in   most    American states.
    5.    If   you want to borrow money,   go to an established brick and mortar   lender that has been around awhile.
    6.    If you receive a call from someone with an Indian accent either a.  threatening you or b.  offering you something, you know it’s a scam and you should hang up immediately.
    7.    These people are predators, the calls are not random, they have information that they have bought from various sources and know your financial history.  If you have ever taken out a pay-day loan, they have all your information.  They know who they are calling.  They like to pick on women, single mothers, the elderly and sometimes  members of the immigrant community.   Also,  those who might be in financial difficulty.
    8.    Report them here: http://www.stopfraud.gov/report.html
    9.           And here:  http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx

Same here, except his name was Lee Watson from Chase.  He told me to pay $893 in past due escrow in order to complete my modification.   I called him back the next day to make the payment,  however I became suspicious when he answered the phone claiming to be Lee Watson from WELLS FARGO.  Thank God I woke up, called Chase and verified that my mortgage modification was still pending.
