caller said my computer is having problems and i should press 1 and talk to a tech. several similar calls last two months

This number calls all day long, what is it? 1-262-208-0411

Automated male voice. Says hi, followed by something along the lines about your computer is producing a high volume of weird noise. Please stay on the line to speak to a Microsoft technician. Didn't stick around long enough to hear what else it would say.

caller said computer is generating ''bad''info and windows is corrupted,security issues etc. as soon as i said is this a scam do you want money caller said no and i ''lost''call,i called number with 2 different phones neither would connect[invalid number.i think if it was truely windows tech support number would have connected, FYI im in walworth co. wi.

The only persons who should be touching your computer is you, your manufacturer, Real Windows support that you have called and/or maybe a real live tech you see face to face!

Went to voice mail. No message.

Calls repeatedly day after day about 4:30 pm pdt. Reaches my answering machine and hangs up. I avoid people and companies which fail to identify themselves. Have taken to screening all calls and now know *60 can block this number and I can do this with any 12 numbers. Cannot get anything except a busy signal when I call back to complain. Very irritating.

Your name or phone can give out private info on Internet.. Google your name, first last name, and see if you can easily get your phone # without paying for it. It can give out your full address and date of birth !!! If your lucky it is a needle in a haystack if not like me it can be right there exposed in the Google search items !!! Beware !!! That's why you get these calls !!! You phone # too, you can Google and check it out. If your lucky no info but like me it can give out your address and more !!! Anonymous call blocking seems to block these calls sometimes but not always. If you give them access to your computer then you will eventually have to replace the hard drive to get it fixed. They will use it and get all you info too in the process. All those connected to you can also be effected.. Not to mention how much they will charge you to have your computer falsely fixed. A few hundred dollars $$$$$$$ !!!

Caller hung up on the answering machine. This is the second time today.

Microsoft WILL NOT MAKE THIS KIND OF CALL TO YOU. These people are scammers. They troll for victims all day long, looking for computer users who are willing to hand over remote control of their computer. When they do, the scammers are able to install malware on your computer that's capable of lots of interesting things, like turning your computer into a zombie on a botnet that sends out tens of thousands of pieces of email spam, or that gathers all of the info in your address book and uses it to send spam, or that gathers other even more sensitive personal info, like your online banking username and password, credit card numbers, social security number -- all sorts of info that can be sold on the black market to all sorts of criminals, like identity thieves. Whatever you do, DO NOT give these people control of your computer, or ANY kind of personal information.

Same as everyone else.  Some lady with an India accent whom I couldn't clearly understand.  I asked her which of my IP addresses were transmitting errors to her and she told me that was confidential information because I may not be a person who should have that kind of security information.  She says "you could be at risk that I can't see".  I told her since she said she could see it I wanted to know which IP addresses were sending her the data.  CLICK!  Hmmm...

Same 'bad' news as others are complaining.

Guy from India tells me my computer isn't working right. I said, 'really, and how do you know this?'
He said something I couldn't understand. I asked, 'tell me, what type of computer am I using.'
His reply: 'Microsoft.'
I said, 'before you bother people learn about computers.'

Okay so I went through all the things that he told me to do you want me to connect to a server so he can see what I'm doing and find out what viruses stopping on my location from running.then I asked him who he was calling from and I asked what his number was and then he hung up.I hate when people try to get you to give him your IPN login information and then take your computer this happen to me before I having gone through with it but it's pretty annoying

That is truly unfortunate.

Since the scammers accessed the computer, they probably did one or more of the following:
• Disabled the anti-virus software
• Added nasty malware to the computer
• Copied the Contact List (so they can email your soon-to-be ex-friends)
• Copied any financial data or passwords they could find
• Compromised the ID
• "Zombied" the computer, so it would respond to THEIR commands sent via internet
• Deleted some important files
• Asked for money to repair the damage they caused

What can you do immediately after such an attack?
1.  Pull the cables on the computer, so it cannot access the internet.
2.  Change ALL  passwords stored on the computer
3.  Run FULL malware scans on the computer, in "SAFE" mode!
4.  Change the passwords again, particularly if the malware scans showed anything
5.  Inform your bank and credit card companies
6.  Sign up for credit monitoring, and check the status frequently
7.  You may have to bring the computer to a local repair shop, and tell them the story.
8.  Tell friends what happened, so they can be aware of strange emails from you
9.  Plug in the computer only AFTER all the above have been done
10.  Change the passwords on all online accounts.  Even better - access a "safe", uninfected  computer, and chance your online account passwords RIGHT NOW.

Receive numerous calls a week. I told the woman today that this is harassment and next time they call I will proceed with legal actions. She laughed at me. I asked oh you think this is funny? She replied yes and hung up. There has to be a way to permanently stop these scammers once and for all since some people are so naive to fall for it

One big giveaway that this is a scam call is the "000" exchange (the middle three numbers).  There aren't any exchanges in the US that have that as their number. No legitimate business uses fake numbers.
