I received a call from this number and I did not pick up. They left a message asking me to call back at 1800-277-4542 regarding my Verizon account. I then received a text message saying I should call 1800-267-4016 regarding my account. I called Verizon at 1800-922-0204 and asked them if the numbers were legit. Verizon said that those numbers to do not belong to Verizon and do not know who is sending the messages. They said that there was no reason why they would need to call me regarding my account since it was fine and to disregard the calls.
As I am typing, this will be the fifth time this number has called my phone within the last 30 minutes and they never leave a message. If it is that important to call back-to-back that many times, then it should be that important to leave a message!
I got this # on my cell as well. Didn't answer it because the # wasn't familiar and decided to type this # in on the comp, myself and now I can see I'm not the only one w/ this problem. Interesting, no doubt.
Sounds a lot like it is just the computer pre-qualifying you. Before they bother connecting you with a real live operator, they want to make sure you're going to answer.
It is important that they call "back-to-back" because you neglected to pay your bills "back-to back" So maybe its verizon who is annoyed because you can't pay your bills on time.
Are your coffers lined by Verizon? Obviously, if so many recipients have received the same ANNOYING phone call, we can't all be deadbeats. Perhaps you should look into opening your own collections agency as you have the perfect temperment.
For the rest of you who have a brain and a life (as opposed to 'not annoyed' who needs both), I too received a call from this number, and am not in debt to Verizon (or anyone else for that matter). Therefore, I can only surmise that (a) Verizon has outsourced their collections to a shyster company because (b) they are harrassing individuals for no apparent reason.
You deserved the comment from none your business. You were implying that they need to pay their bills on time. Who are you degrade someone. This was nothing personal, but you brought it there. You are a dumb a**!
Just got 2 calls 2 min ago...first one no message...second left a message saying I need to call Verizon regarding my wireless service. 949 area code is Laguna Beach CA.
i just got a text like a week or two ago saying to call a number about my account but i was just like "whatever" and i didn't do it...i'm glad i didn't. but i just got a new phone so i guess im safe, lol
THE ANSWER IS !!!! This is a legitimate call from Verizon Financial Services. I received a similar call and spent considerable time with a Verizon Cust Service Rep who did a BRILLIANT JOB of sorting it out. The phone calls are computer generated -- therefore multiple calls and often hangups since they take the next call in the queue. That answers the hangups --- rightly or wrongly. The caller ID on the phone is legit and is what they use for outgoing calls. The reason they call is one of the following. You owe them. They have your phone number attached to someone who owes them. If you don't owe them, tell them to search your phone number and take your number off the account of the person who owes them. ---- They had my home phone number on someone elses account. They removed it and the calls stopped. Hope this answers everyones questions.
This is Verizon Wireless claiming to be collecting on past due accounts, but I can not get them to stop calling my home! Each time they call, they ask for a different person. Not only do I not know the person they are asking for, but I do not have an account with Verizon Wireless. When I speak with a supervisor, they indicate our number will be removed. A couple of days will go by and I start getting calls again.
What can I do? I am willing to take action, but I do not know where to start. I have contacted the FCC, but I do not know if this will lead anywhere.
It's possible that your number got published to a list scammers use when they sign up for their own accounts with Verizon (possibly using stolen identities from third parties). Thus, when their fraudulent account is about to be disconnected, Verizon Financial Services calls your number as the fraudster's home phone number. What's worse, the Verizon supervisors will only remove it on a per-account basis (doing a search by home phone and then changing all the numbers is a tedious task easily put off to the next shift). So you may end up getting a call each for each and every fraudster owing money to Verizon until they finally go through the whole list and change the account home phone number in each.
I do believe this is Verizon...butt..and yes.. I do mean butt.. why are they acting so shifty about it? I'm always 1 week late on my account.. ALWAYS since I've had them.. I should change the due date..HUH? You would think they would be nice enough to do it for ME!! anyways.. it's still shifty in my opinion.. if you don't pay your bill... guess what? They shut you off...~! You don't go over 30something days owing this company... they will SHUT YOU DOWN a little over 30...there is absolutely no need to disguise who they are...I will NOT pick up a number I do not know...if I knew it was verizon.. I would have picked up..No problem.. anywho.. just my 2sense.. lol
or the phone manufacturer who owes you a rebate for which verizon is an agent to, has not provided it to you, so that you can forward it back to verizon in order to pay for the rest of the silly phone.....
You obviously are working with this group of scammers, because you cut and paste this same response on multiple phone complaint boards. Interesting. You guys are doing a fairly poor job of making this look legit... I hope you guys get caught soon!
If this number calls you, let them know that you are in control and that you are not going to give them any of your account info.
I had online chat with a Verizon rep and was advised that my account was fine and that the #'s 949-286-3311 (from which the call originated) and 800-754-0961 (the # I was told to call immediatley) were not verizon and to disregard. How to get to the bottom of this??
No, they are Verizon Wireless collections, which apparently doesn't talk much with plain old Verizon, since Verizon non-wireless claims not to know about the number when you ask them. They call me when I'm late with my phone bill. They aren't scammers, but they can be retarded about bothering people who don't have accounts or who aren't behind in payments.
Hey guys. Just called Verizon Credits (1.800.922.0204) and spoke with a legit representative of Verizon. She told me the 949.286.3311 number was a legit financial service number, but if you are still concerned, call the 1800 number provided above. Once on the phone, type in 3 for technical support, then 1 for the next option. They'll tell you the same I told you. No worries, I can see why you thought this might be a scam, but you should be fine.
All of the replies here that tell you this is legit are part of the scam. They want you to call them back because when you do,their computer picks up three things. 1. your phone number 2. your name 3. YOUR HOME ADDRESS!! Never call back any telemarketer, because the scammers are often fishing for your name and address. It happens a lot these days. DO NOT CALL THEM BACK!!

Why would Verizon want to scam you for that information. First of all if they are calling you they already have your phone number. Second! they obviously have your name because you are a verizon customer. And hello! address! where do you think the bills get sent to.
Verizon wireless always sends me a text with a set message when it concerns my account. I would assume it is the same for anyone else. Hence, if they aren't texting you with a familiar, standard message, ignore it.
The 800# you're providing is not a verizon #. People please go online and check the #'s before calling or giving anyone any of your personal information. Check the verizon website and this # does not appear anywhere. Thanks!
They don't leave a message because its an automated calling system that when they get an answer it connects you to the next representative. They don't leave messages because if you arent reposible enough to pay your bill on time why would you be responsible enough to return a simple voice message.
I received a call from this number today (949) 286-3311 on my land line. I do no business with Verizon and owe them no money. There is no reason for the call. I side with the people saying it is a scam.
I got a call from this number this morning. I have recently (yesterday) received a replacement phone from Verizon. I answered, and said hello, hello, but there was no response. I looked at the screen of my phone and there was this weird icon showing arrows coming and going from my phone - as if it were collecting something.
This is a legitimate call from Verizon. Just got off the phone with them. My account was past due and told them I would be making payment soon, and was noted on the account. They didn't ask for any personal information, just to confirm my name.
If they are calling you, most likely you have a past due account with Verizon or they have your number attached to another account that is.
I've been late on my Verizon bill before - just curious why they aren't sending texts to contact them like they used to. MUCH MORE EFFICIENT - because I am not and WILL not answer a call from a number I do not know.
i just got a call from same number (949 286-3311) the guy knew my husbands name and said he worked for verizon and that a "darrin peterson" needed a valid email address to send a "reciept" to. what the %#$^ is that all about?
let me add that we use magic jack for our phone service, we've NEVER had a verizon account, who is darrin peterson and what's so hard about getting an email address?!!? who can i call to inquire about this creepy phone call? and what was the purpose of this call?!!?
I received 4 calls from this number. After reading the posts on this site, I figured it was a scam. I talked to a rep at Verizon by dialing *611 from my handset. The rep told me that the number is from their financial services department.
this # belongs to verizon financial services. I have received calls from them in the past and when its called back it goes to a voicemail message advising verizon fin. serv.
