- Shaun| 1 replyThey left a message stating that they tried to deliver legal documents and had failed. Called back (just in case it was something legit) and some random guy answered saying that the office was closed and that it was Howard and Associates out of Irvine, CA.
- Caller: Howard and Associates
- V replies to ShaunThis happened to me yesterday. They called stating they were going to send a process server. This happened two weeks ago from a place Affinity Solutions J.D Malone Associates indicating they had an outstanding check and they were going to file criminal charges. However, this place was from NY. Now I am getting a similar call from Irvine CA. I filed complaints and provided all telephone numbers that are coming in these organizations. It's a phishing scam...don't give out any information or credit card account information.
- Shawn H| 2 repliesI also received a call today from the same people. They claimed that I also still owed on a bill. It was the name a valid company I defaulted on back in 2006, however I remember getting a settlement from the company. The claim my $420 default is now $3,500 plus lawyer fees, which seems crazy. I told him I think I paid a settlement already, and he stated that even if I have proof that wont matter and it probably was fraud. The also stated they were from Howard & Associates, in California, and that I needed to deal with this immediately or I would be sued. I tried to find a website or information about this company on the internet to no success, and the phone number does not seem to be a legitimately listed business number. It looks like it may be a cell phone. Also, they said payments cannot be made over the phone they will fax you the information.
- DaFox replies to Shawn HCheck the statute of limitation for your location where the original debt was incurred.

If the time period has lapsed, they can not successfully sue you.
By claiming they can, if the can not, they have violated federal law:

Using Wiki link due to federal shut down. - Kepha Hawkins replies to Shawn HI also received a similar call, saying they were trying to deliver a summons to my old address. When I asked them to send it to my current one, they told me it was too late for that, and I needed to communicate through fax. So I just ignored their calls from there. Stopped calling after about 2 weeks.
- Jerry H.| 2 repliesI received a call from this company Howard and Associates out of Irvine, CA. stating my wife opened a credit card and owed a balance from 2007. I Told them this was false because my wife never opened a credit card & we still don't have any credit cards. They said they were going to send me legal documents. I said wait if the account that we didn't open in 2007 then the California statue of limitation have already ran out. The man named Keith Stevens said the Statute of limitations begin on the discharge date which he claimed was in Sept. of 2009. I told him no, it's actually after missing the last payment or six months after, not the discharge date. He got pissed and cocky. I said goodbye. Their Phone number was 949-864-6897, so I think they changed their number.

- Diane D. replies to Jerry H.| 1 replyMy father received that same call yesterday! Someone named Keith Stevens looking for me, telling him that I owe this crazy debt from 2007. I looked up Keith Stevens on the CA bar association web site and he is NOT an active attorney!! This is a scam
- Melina BMy husband received a message from his boss, that this # had called the office asking for him. They told my husband he owed $1,000 for an overdraft in 2005 from US Bank. He asked how much the original overdraft was, the person on the other line said $40. My husband asked, " this is disputable, right?" The guy said "Yes". My husband said, "See ya in court." The guy said, "Have a nice day," and hung up. My husband works construction and could not hear who the co. was. I called back that night and an answering machine picked up, stating it was Howard and Associates. I left a message and told them to never call back and that calling my husband's employer was harassment, violating the Fair Collections Debt Act and that we would seek legal action. It's getting bad when they try to phish for info. at a person's place of employment. The # was 949-864-6879

- TylerMy mother said someone has been leaving messages on her answering machine trying to contact me from this Howard and associates place for months. I told her it was a scam. She called me yesterday and said she got another call and they left a message saying something about my court number or case number! LOL! Keep in mind, my mother lives in another state far away from me and I haven't lived there for over 20 years. These people are desperate. If it was real, why would they be contacting a house I lived in until 17, then moving away for college? I called the number she gave me from a burner phone and some idiot named Steve answered and I gave him no information. All he wanted was try to fish for information. I didn't even give him my name. Just kept asking him questions and wanted a website for his legitimate law firm. I told him I knew it was a scam and he hung up.
