Person with thick accent called in a harrassing manner demanding $580.00 in debt repayment.

They knew all confidencial information.   SSN, Bank info, Work Phone number, Home address, & other info I thought was hidden from public knowledge.

Threatened to have me arrested if I didn't pay.

I received a call from a person threatening me on several charges that i will be arrested for fraud, wire scam, etc. When I asked what this was for, it was for some payday loan I refused to pay. However I don't have any loans out from them and asked for proper documentation to his charges. He told me he was trying to help me stay out of jail and I again asked for the documentation and he stated it would be sent with the arresting officers when they come to get me. Legally, if I had these issues, they would not call me in advance if they planned to arrest me and if I was going to be sued, they would have to send me certified mail. Sounds like a scam to me. Also, the attorney general of California is in Sacramento, CA not Los Angeles.

yes I have been getting very harrassing calls from these people. It was a guy with a thick accent and he was incredibly rude and condescending. I was worried because I am fighting in court for a dui charge and I thought this was related. I am so relieved that it's not related whew! They will be getting a mouthful from me next time they call for their rude bs! You will all be in my thoughts when I cuss em out and threaten them for stressin' me out :).

yes I too have ben harrassed by this same man with a thick accent for the last two weeks. I figured it had to be a scam because he kept calling from a different number and when I told him I would have my lawyer look into it, he insisted on me calling this number and talk to someone. Now today, I get an emial with a laundry list of charges against me. Each time I cuss em out and he still calls, he has even called my job. With the same b--s about a payday loan.  Talkin about somebody is using my s.s.# number doing  fraud activity. This M--f wants my S.S.# so he can do fraud. He needs to crawl back into the hell hole he came out of.

unfortunately that would weaken a harassment case, but would be almost worth it. they can be fined $1000 per incident/ :-D after call lets say 5 I felt harassed that's $16,000 oh look they just paid a year and a half of my mortgage plus legal fees!

I received 6 phone calls to my business (which I own) for one of my employees. The man (of Indian descent perhaps) cursed at me, called me names, threatened me and said he would continue to call over and over until I put the employee on the phone. Having worked for a collections company before, I know it is illegal for them to call a place of business if the business says they cannot, which of course I did. The man said he didn't care, he was going to continue to call, what was I going to do about it? It is also illegal for him to say he is from the state attorney's office, which he did. When I told him I filed a complaint with them in both California and in my state, he again said he could care less and he would have me arrested. My employee is also issue a company cell phone and the same man called her on it 78 times in a row, threatening her with arrest (which again is illegal) if she didn't pay whatever he was claiming she owed. He knew her social security number and birthday as well. Also, in California, it is illegal for collection agencies to use foul language or call you names.

He continued to call my business phone until I finally blocked the number-dial *60 to block the number. My employee also filed a complaint with the FCC. I have called the number back and it goes directly to the same man. Sometimes a woman will answer as well. The number is not a spoof number as the CA AGs office claimed-it is a hardline directly to them.

Got this same message to call this same guy.  I told him to send me a formal letter stating the legal allegations and I'd have my lawyer respond to them.  He claimed before they do that I still need to talk to this Curtis Jackson at this number.  About 5 minutes, later this same foreigner called back and asked if I'd spoken to Curtis Jackson yet. I said "NO, I just walked into my office."  I also told him that I know my rights because I've worked for attorneys for 30 years. I asked what state's attorney office and he said "Los Angeles, California."  I'm about to file a police report on them and follow up with FCC.

Like the above, I received a call at my Branch office regarding one of my employees. The first time I was respectful and polite, and took down the message for my employee, but when he mentioned it was the state attorney general's office regarding fraud, alarm bells went off, since legally they can't tell me the reason of the call, but he just did. Searching the number brought me here.

After another series of calls, I have now gotten him to block me, and let me just say, this man is very easy to make angry if you are very polite to him, and point out all the flaws in his operation, and just stand firm in your refusal to tell him anything but how wrong he is, and how flawed his false identity is. He strikes me as someone very new to this game, as he got mad enough that he managed to call bomb all 8 of our incoming lines with over 100 different phone numbers from across the country, instead of understanding that I was a waste of his time and he wasn't getting anywhere.

Moral: Legal threats, as much as we want them to, have no effect. Mercilessly shaming and trying to be friendly to this man (I even called him every thirty minutes to check up on him!) has resulted in him blocking -MY- number. Much worth it if you have the time and the level head to keep it up, because he will get very violent.

As someone who works in finance, pulling the funds from your account is excessively complicated to do. All ACHes generally have to be pre-authorized, either in the form of a physical check that is then converted electronically, or in the event of bank transfers, a transfer initiated on your consent. Simply debiting funds from a bank account, even if you know the routing number, Social security number, and bank account number, is next to impossible. It is actually easier to process it as a credit card transaction, as you only need a card number, expiration date, and CVC to initiate the debit, but those are easily traced.

The calls, if allowed to proceed, probably push to have you initiate the transaction, and once a transaction is authorized, he can pull down more than what was authorized--to a point.

If anyone reading this is really worried, by all means change your account numbers, and your bank will almost always help with that, but most banks now require substantial documentation to initiate ACH debits, and unknown or atypical Credit card deductions, especially from companies unknown to the banking institution, generally result in a fraud lock being placed on the account.

As long as you don't give in to this guy, you're fairly secure. It can be unnerving, but that's what he's counting on.
