- Popsicle| 5 repliesThese guys are definitely after information about someone you know who probably owes someone money. My gripe is that they are devious, sneaky, but thankfully not too bright. They pretend to a) be a friend of the person in question, b) be an prospective employer and say that the person in question put your name down as a reference, c) are vague and say important call.
Whatever you do, and of course it's up to you, don't tell them anything unless they come clean and are honest about their inquiry into someone's private affairs. After receiving 8 calls and telling them to blow it off, they finally put another guy to call, but he is just as bad as the first. I would like to know how to block these guys. Anyone?- Caller: J&M Associates, Collection Agency
- Call type: Debt collector

- Caller: "JM Associates"
- AP replies to loriThey are calling me 3 times a week saying the same thing...It's important and to return the call....no details of why i need to call back
- KevThey called from this # 951-710-1600 saying to my mom that it is important and that i have to call back. They gave her no information whatsoever. They have called my house 7 times, they are creepy.
- mr2wheelsOh boy, am I glad I found this website. These people are the worst. Apparently there is somebody in Portland, Oregon, with a similar name to mine and they got it in their fat heads that I was him. 2 to 3 calls a week for over a year, usually some jerk identifying himself as "Mike" and acting like we are friendly in some fashion. Wants me to pay up for attending Pacific University, a private college--like I could ever afford better than community college!
- voice of reason| 1 replyWell to set the record straight for everyone that has made comments out of shear ignorance, this company cant leave much more details than a name and number due to federal law. Being friendly on the phone often gets interpreted as being a friend or pretending to be a friend since telemarketers and collection agencies don't normally come off that way. Nonetheless if I owed money I would much rather someone come of as friendly rather than a jerk. FYI references are used for more purposes than employment; really anything that requires an application: mortgage app, rental app, federal student loan app, etc. In reference to being vague, what if its an old number that their calling and they were not so vague as to just leave name, number and the fact that its important, what if they put all of your personal business on your old number but now its someone else's voice mail! And since you never call them back but would rather chat on here they will never know that they are calling an old number now would they? As far as calling several times a week: if someone owed you money and promised to pay it back but wouldn't; how often would you call them?
bottom line: its better to get a friendly reminder call on money you owe than a knock on the door being served at home or work with a summons of complaint to appear in court! - CMBRec'vd call from woman named Stacey, she asked for a call when I recv'd the message. When I called (after hours, apparently) I listened to a recording for JM Associates, a collection agency in California.

- chris replies to Caitlin| 2 repliesyeah hello my name is chris i used to work for that comp the only thing there calling for is to get info on you or a friend to collect a debt that you or your friend owe.
so if u want to talk about breaking laws you are breaking a law by not paying your fed loans.
this means that they can sue you or take money out of your paycheck to pay this back.

- MsDfied| 1 replySo, I called last year, and ended up giving them my payment number to pay off student loans. Now the number says that it cant be found. How am I suppose to find them?
- Call type: Debt collector
- MsDfied replies to MsDfiedI realized that I typed in the wrong number. I called them back and I am paid in full. So yeh, if you really are the wrong person tell them that and give the last four digits of your social. Also ask how they got your information. They are a legit company and have helped me pay off loans that I received while in graduate school . So just be patient and they will work out lower payments with you. God bless!
