United Collection Bureau Collection Agency harrassment Toledo Ohio
UCB also touts their “predictive dialers,” which mean that consumers receive robo-calls, as well as their ability to route calls to specific employees based on the account number, age of caller, language preference, or balance amount. While United Collection Bureau says that all debt collectors must participate in university level coursework at “UCB Learning Institute,” it has been sued over two dozen times over the past year for allegedly violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
Even though United Collection Bureau works as a professional collection agency, across the Web there are reports that UCB's methods of debt collection sometimes cross the line into harassment.

As per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act or FDCPA, the use of threats is strictly prohibited. This extends to threatening to repossess personal belongings, such as your home or car, if those possessions weren't used as collateral. Sometimes, debt collectors - whether from United Collection Bureau or any other debt collection agency - may try to extract confidential information from consumers, such as Social Security numbers or details about employment information. Remember that you have the right to withhold this information from such debt collection agencies. Indeed, you shouldn't part with any personal information in your conversations with debt collectors.

If your feel that United Collection Bureau has harassed you, you should contact a fair debt attorney. Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, you have the right to redress. A fair debt attorney should represent you free of charge, since the FDCPA says that a debt collection agency that violates the law must pay for your attorney fees.

The message I retrieved was garbled and not understandable..I picked pieces of it something about a debt and not to let anyone else in the house hear.  Gave me an 800 number but they will be waiting a long time before I call them...Where do these people come from..Threatening and trying to intimidate people.. it is against the law for debt collectors to harass you at work.  they are breaking the law and you should report them to the BBB.   don't fall for these bullying tactics.

We don't owe anyone money.  this may be for a family member but regardless has nothing to do with us and I want the calls to stop.  We are on the do not call list.  The call went to VMX and they didn't leave a message.

We are suddenly getting calls from UCB.  We have NO BAD DEBTS, all of our accounts are current and in excellent standing.  However we do have a relative who is a "wounded warrior" and struggling financially.  They live in another state and they do not hide their location from anyone so there is no point in harrassing anyone about their situation.  They HAVE attempted to work with their creditors while they work on getting on their feet but few of these companies have any interest in legitimate collection employing legal methods.  And I am suddenly getting calls about a nephew I have not seen in 37 years - not a typo, thirty-seven years.  He lives 1,000 miles from here at last report in his car.  He is a drug addict with no education who has never held a job so it amazes me he has ever been able to obtain credit in the first place.  I have no idea how they made any connection with me!  One would think that after a few months of making calls up to five times a day and getting no reply whatsoever they would give it up!   I am not going to give these vipers the time of day.  Twice in my lifetime I have taken a financial dive - once when one of our kids had cancer, the second when an immediate family member had three kids with autism and the head of the family became disabled.  You CAN recover financially without ever declaring bankruptcy. When you have a legitimate problem and you are responsible for the debts, most companies WILL work with you.  Only a few break the law and hedge the bet that their victims will never get wise to the laws protecting creditors.  However - a reminder to those who post here - this is NOT a legal agency and neither is the BBB which has no enforcement power either. Neither does more than take reports and share information.  To get ACTION there are legal steps you must take with your state government - none costing you anything. Contact your state's consumer protection agency which is part of the state's Attorney General's office.  Meanwhile get Caller ID and never pick up an unfamiliar number. With the exception of federal and state accounts not paying your debts is NOT A CRIME in this country, the police cannot arrest you, you cannot go to jail.

and I see I contradicted myself in the previous message.  I stated that few of these companies adhere to the law but I also said few of these companies resort to illegal methods. Overall most collection agencies are working within the laws.  At the same time there is an increase in the numbers who throw caution to the wind and hope they are not caught.  When the phone is ringing hour by hour all day and late at night seven days a week it is easy to overlook those not calling!  Just the same this site helps me sort the crooks from the legitmate collectors who are not showing up in reports here.  It saves me a lot of grief and alleviates my worry that I might be ignoring an actual call from some new contact I do want to hear from.

I ENJOY A GOOD TROLLING replies to sis
No one in this home at this phone number owes a red cent to anyone for anything.
But I return all these calls because I love to troll these clowns, i push them into breaking the fair act laws even that I tell them this call is being recorded they still use threats that are criminal threats against me like sending someone to beat me up etc.  (my spelling/grammar isn't the best so please bare with it)As I may find it funny at times it is the info they have that worries me.
The part that has me lost is these clowns know personal info like ssn, dob, etc. seems that everyone on a DO NOT CALL LIST is being targeted.

Called a business phone looking for employee that hasn't worked with us for at least 12 years. I told the lady there is no one here by that name, and she proceeds to spell the last name, I said "once again there is no one here by that name", she then ask for the HR dept, I said "that is me and there still is no one here by that name", she acted offended and I hung up on her.
