They tried to indicate that they were with Osha.  When I questioned her, she was very defensive.  At the end of the call, she said good luck with your audit.

OSHA poster scam.  Offered to send out OSHA compliance posters, logbooks, etc, never mentioning a price until I asked them if they were going to charge us for them.  She said they would send an invoice.  I told them to stop right there, I wasn't interested because we get OSHA materials for free, and to take our number off their list.

Definitely a scam.  You can get OSHA posters free of charge at their site - here is what they say:

    https://www.osha.gov/Publications/workplace_poster_page.html

We continue to learn of complaints from employers who have received "official looking" announcements and -- in some cases -- threatening notices, messages, or telephone calls from various companies requiring that employers purchase OSHA documents from them in order to remain in compliance with OSHA rules and regulations. The most popular document being offered for sale is the OSHA Workplace Poster (also available in Spanish). We have also learned of a few cases in which individuals, falsely identifying themselves as Department of Labor or OSHA employees, contact employers threatening fines if they do not purchase specific materials.

It's important that all employers do not become victim of misleading solicitation practices or incur unnecessary costs where these resources are concerned.

OSHA's publications and posters are available free to anyone who asks simply by visiting the publications page on the agency's Web site at http://www.osha.gov/pls/publications/publication.html. The publications, posters, fact sheets, etc., can be ordered through the publications office or, in most cases, downloaded directly from the Web site.

As a reminder, employers are required to continually display a poster prepared by the Department of Labor that informs employees of protections afforded under the Occupational Safety and Health Act. The poster must be displayed in a conspicuous place where employees can view it. Private employers may use the poster available from OSHA's Web site, or a suitable reproduction or facsimile.

You can contact any OSHA area office throughout the nation to report a misleading solicitation, or to get information on specific workplace safety and health requirements. Those office addresses and phone numbers are available on the agency's Web site at http://www.osha.gov/html/RAmap.html.

OSHA updates its Web site daily. We invite you to refer to it often for important information about workplace safety and health.

Our company received a call from these SCAM ARTISTS this morning at 0955 hrs.  The woman identified herself as Melissa Strom and rattled something off about workplace compliance, OSHA, and audit.  Yes, she clearly said "audit."  She was obviously trying to give the impression that OSHA would be auditing our business and our OSHA-required poster(s) were out-of-date.  When I expressed my skepticism and told her I was wary she was a scam artist, she chuckled and said she wished that was true because then she'd be better paid.  Nice touch that, hinting that she is an underpaid Federal employee.  I went several minutes of going around and around with this woman with me trying to sniff out whether or not is was a scam and her telling me that our company hadn't received any recent posters (which is true because the posters aren't issued every year and we never received posters from these people).  In the meantime, my fingers were typing away to bring up this site and lo-and-behold! my suspicions were confirmed.  I told her, you're not from OSHA (she immediately protested that she never said she was (she was merely implying it really, really hard.)) I continued, "You're in Florida, which is the scam 'capital' of the world.  You're trying to bill us for hundreds of dollars for posters that are available for free.  {Bleep} you!  You're a scam artist!" and promptly slammed down the phone.

they called again today. Usually once a year. My staff is (hopefully) trained to not use the work YES. They will clip that response from the recorded telephone call and use it as proof you placed the order. We also refuse delivery of packages in cylinder mailing/shipping cartons.

Hello my name is Melissa storm I work for a private company named federal safety compliance we are a private publishing firm that provides osha and epa updates. I have read the previous comments and am appalled with the lies that people say because they didn't listen when they were called every call is recorded and I never say the word audit in any of my phone calls. My advice to you is to call our office since you obviously have our number and ask to hear your recording be honest the only reason we as a company would send you our Package is if you said yes not to just one phone call but 2 because after you order from Me  my shipping department called you and verified the order on recording. Also to those reading the post should remember that are always two sides to every story and somewhere in the middle is the truth.... please enjoy the rest of your day

Yes, and consumers are generally appalled when someone tries to sell them something they can receive for free.  People also don't like misleading calls as a rule.

What humors me is that you companies believed they are scammed into getting these materials.  Not only do the notification representatives advise you of invoice the shipping dept as well advises you of the same. You can simply state you are not interested and carry on to your business. We do not pose as OSHA as are calls are recorded and we would long be shut down if so, it's not our fault that the Managers are unable to decipher where they receive their materials from. This is in fact the reason why we ask for a manager, to ensure that they want the products before we send them. Please do not slander the name of our company,

Melissa, you obviously did not read what I posted - I posted from the OSHA website - I didn't receive a call, but other people have.  These people do NOT need to order anything that they can't get for free from the Government - again, please do take the time to read what I posted.  It is a scam if people are being asked for their addresses and then they're sent items they didn't ask for or want.  It's also gross misrepresentation for your representatives to say they are from OSHA and a company may not be compliant if they don't order from you.

You can record all you want - all that will prove is your own unethical sales calls.  Folks, draw your own conclusions about this response to a factual posting on how to avoid being scammed from OSHA themselves.  Oh, and Melissa - I used to work in HR and we did NOT need to order anything from a company like yours at all - AND we were compliant.  The posters here have already stated that they do not want your "services" and you still call them.  You have yourself a great day - and please do learn how to read - and understand - what was posted on OSHA's website (and I reposted).

Badge, she went to Shilliversity --- you have to repeat several grades and fail the GED at least a dozen time to gain admittance.  I do suspect here real education is about to begin since she started a debate with the regulars
