Got a call at 3:56 pm on Sunday, Janaury 13, 2007. i read the caller I.D. and did not answer. They did not leave a message either on the answering machine. Got on internet to investigate and found out this is a probably a sales call with shady intentions. I am on the National and Colorado "DO NOT CALL LIST".

Jan 14 2008.  Caller ID shows "Local Call".  Answered but no one answered on the other end.  May be a call center with automatic call distribution and no one was available on their side when I answered.

Raising money for the "Colorado Police Protective Association", whatever that is.  They could not tell me how much goes to fund raising expenses, but did say that they guarantee that $93,000 goes to the Association (regardles of how much is raised).  They could not tell me who owns the association.  Sounds like a real scam.

Has to be a scam!!!  I didn't answer it, but did call it back.  So I take it these guys sit in a cozy condo in Aspen Co., and call and try to get you to donate to charities, didn't say which ones.  I guess we get to pick which one, as if it matters, because I think they are taking the money and having cocktails in front of the fire at night, and skiing during the day!

    This is a SCAM.

They say they are the Colorado Police Protective Assn., and they are calling trying to raise money.  The Association is real and located in Colorado Springs, but they have completely different telephone numbers.  They are primarily a legal defense association for members of Colorado police forces.

In Fort Collins, where I live, the only solicitation calls that I know are legit are from the Fraternal Order of Police and they aren't afraid to say so.

Also, these callers are rude, which is not true for the Fraternal Order. I have been called every day (at least once per day) for almost two weeks.  Today's call was by far the rudest, with the caller mocking me and hanging up on me when I asked if he understood me and my request to stop calling me.

I have just today sent an email to the real Colorado Police Protective Assn. informing them of the ongoing and rude nature of the calls, and asking them to cease immediately or risk legal action. I am awaiting a response. I am also sure they will disavow any knowledge of these calls, which makes sense if they are a real organization.

I, too, am on both the National and Colorado DO NOT CALL Registry, but these calls squeak by because of the "Local Call" identification in the Caller ID.  They are, however, located in Aspen as someone else already mentioned.

It's time to BLOCK the calls, right?

    The real scoop
This is a call from the Colorado Police Protective Assn, a charity but according to their website your donations are NOT tax deductable due to their tax status. More importantly the call does not actually come from the CPPA but instead from the pro telemarketers they contracted with. And that shady organization is JAK Productions out of Atlanta. According to the CPPA website these scumbag telemarketers only give 15 percent of your donation to the charity. So if you give any money then 85 percent of it is going to JAK and you get NO tax deduction. That is a raw deal. Another way for telemarketers to circumvent the no-call law by involving desperate charities. If you feel the need to give to the CPPA then do so directly but tell them you do not appreciate being harassed by a telemarketer who keeps the lions share of the donation. Hopefully the CPPA will realize their mistake and get out of this relationship with JAK as soon as their contract runs out. But who knows how long that will be.
Dont give any money to these scumbag telemarketers. See the CPPA website so you know what I'm saying is true. Its all there in black and white.

this is the details on the website as per stated above
    Telemarketing

The Colorado Police Protective Association has contracted JAK Productions to do Colorado residential telemarketing.
Contributions are not tax deductible due to the Colorado Police Protective Association's particular tax status for federal income tax purposes.  The CPPA is a 501(c)(8). The CPPA is guaranteed $93,000 or 15% of the total gross received.

    The CPPA's Colorado registration # is 20023004090

    JAK Production's Colorado registration # is 20023003576

If you would like your telephone number removed from the calling list please contact the CPPA office either by telephone or email at 800.320.2772 or cppa@cppa.net and leave the entire telephone number to include area code that you want removed.  It takes five business days to process your request.

While the CPPA office is located in Colorado Springs at 1485 Kelly Johnson Blvd., Suite 230, Colorado Springs, CO 80920, the Donor Response Center for pledge donations is 700 Colorado Ave. in Denver

    fed up with the calls
We get calls from this danged number repeatedly.  I'm glad to see that this site exists and there is some explanation as to who or what the number is about.  Have not answered the calls and blocked the number after reading the posts above.  We are also on the Colorado and national DO NOT CALL registries.  So much for that.  The creeps always find a way around that.

The persistent calls received from this number are all much the same as the details already noted by others. No messages are left, but whoever this is calls everyday. Frustrating....

    Frustrated
Just got a call from these guys (about the 20th call). I kept refusing to donate and they kept lowering the dollar amount. I finally hung the phone up on the guy. I'll probably be put on their "favorites" list and get a call everyday now. Oh well. Hopefully the email address above helps get me off of their list.

Check out this link. It pretty much says that if you are a telemarketer and you want a complete list of the Colorado's Do-Not-Call list you can pay a fee (up to $500) to have the whole list. Apparently, if you added your name to the Do-Not_call list, the government gets to sell your phone number to "charitable" telemarketers.

Colorado is in on the SCAM. In fact, they are supporting it, and making their own profit off of it.
