Sounded like a phishing attempt to me, or at least an idiot filter. The recording claims that you have been selected to answer a short 30 second survey about the upcoming "controversial election". "For participating, you get a free cruise paid for by wealthy donors, all you have to pay for are the port taxes and a few other fees." Push 1 to continue or 9 to be removed from our list. The leading questions and too good to be true "reward" pretty much ensure that they only get uncritical thinkers who already have clear political leanings pushing one.

AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine attorney general’s office on Friday issued a scam alert about a sham political robocall that disguises a vacation time-share pitch as an election poll.

A group called Political Opinions of America uses an automated voice to ask a three-question poll, according to a press release issued by Maine Attorney General William J. Schneider. After answering, Caribbean Cruise Lines offers the consumer a free cruise for taking the survey.

The free offer, however, requires a port fee or tax to be paid by credit card over the phone, the press release said. The cruise claims to be designed to expose people to sales pitches for vacation time shares.

“Legitimate campaign calls can be expected during election season and the information that pollsters obtain from voters is valuable to the campaign process,” Schneider said in the release. “A bonafide survey will not try to reward you with a free service or sell you something.”

Cruise scam disguised as political call. Pre-recorded message.

Also calls from 206.496.0946, 206.496.0948, 206.496.0950, 209.496.0951, 206.496.0955 & 206.496.0957. Same recording about "winning" a 2-day cruise to the Bahamas in exchange for taking a 30-second political survey and paying gratuities, taxes, etc. that will amount to your paying for the "free" cruise.

SCAM" should be in the drop-down menu for Call Type. Even as I am finishing, they are calling back.

Same BS as everyone else--political survey and "free crusie."  They've called serveral times.  This last time, I hung up and called back immediately, with the hope that I could get placed on their do not call list.  No such luck--all I got was the pre-recorded message about the number not being available at this time, and that I should call back later.  Nonetheless, I don't understand why I'm getting these calls in the first place.  I'm on the national "do not call" registry, but a lot of good that seems to be doing.

There is no point blocking the number because they'll only call again in a couple of days from another number and your "Call Block" list will be full in no time.  I answer the phone and then immediately hang up so they don't get a live person and their recording doesn't have a chance to kick in.  In addition to the numbers posted by QW, they've called from (360) 474-3942, (360) 474-3944, (971) 208-9960 and (971) 208-9963.  I don't understand why the FCC isn't doing anything about these calls because they're also annoying people in Canada.

Dead line when I answered, I am convinced that the do not call list is being used by offshore companies as a call list, any one can get a copy of the list and if they call from another country our useless laws do not apply to them!  I have had about ten of these calls this week, what a waste of my time deleting the blank voice mail messages or ones that just say press a key to .....!!!!!!

Don't you get it, they are probably not calling from the US or Canada, our laws do not apply!

Illegal telemarketing call for a cruise posing as a "political survey".

I got the call today in Houston, TX.  Did not answer or follow up.

Yep, that's what it is, some "political" thing promising a cruise ship thing--I checked on the donotcall.gov website and unfortunately, they *can* call you if they are a "political" group, regardless if you're number is registered (mine is). Thing is, you can request that they stop calling but this thing is totally automated and that's how they get around that rule....I want to file a complaint with the donotcall.gov for such a stupid allowance!!!

How can I block these people ?

Just received the call. Noted that it was not a recognizable number and didn't answer.

I'm starting to think a service like Google Voice might be required to prevent this crap from reaching my phone.

Just received the call.  Hung up on it after I heard Political Survey.  Definitely the correct opening statement for the scam, "Political Survey".  Just like our politicians promising something for free then charging for it.   It's not a tax it's a penalty!  You're not paying for the cruise it's only tax and port fees!    Probably get there and find out it's some water ride at a theme park or a small boat with two oars.  After all "cruise" will be defined by the provider.
