- jay| 4 repliesThey called and left no message 503-902-8479- Pacifictel- Call was about lowering interst rates, a recorded message.
Called again different number this time was pactel, I'm sur it is the same so called business, 503-457-1300
also on 253-382-9999, and today on 971-220-1781
These people are awful stupid, they use different numbers the call today was no message left. if I was interested would have I called back over a month ago? What jerks these people are, so it's nothing but a scam, note:
Don't ever press any key on your phone they tell you to, when you do that you could be connected to a long distance over seas number you'll be charged for, this is one of the ways these scams make their money, even if you hand up they don't care they made money by you having to pay for that call. Only press numbers of a place you know for sure (or bank etc or a number you called that is legitimate)- and again that red flag should go up when offered a big prize for a few seconds up your time. I just hung up, I hope you do to.
NOTE:
If the area code is 284, 809 or 876, you've called Jamaica, the Dominican Republic or the British Virgin Islands, new hotbed homes of telephone scams. Similar cons are also run out of other Caribbean islands.
For these calls, you'll typically pay $1.49 to $3.99 per minute, depending on the plan and carrier. You're never told this, but the numbers function like American "premium rate" lines that use the 900 area code, with sky-high rates that are split between phone companies and those who operate the lines.
Dial one of these Caribbean numbers and chances are you'll get pitched for some scam. But the thieves' real goal is often just to keep you on the line as long as possible and maximize their take. You'll endure long holds, frequent transfers and lots of small talk. Result: A call lasting just a few minutes can cost more than $20, a charge you discover only when your phone bill arrives.- Caller: pactel

- MammaBear replies to Don ZouI contacted the local office of the FBI and reported this case of attempted credit card theft. Please do the same. If enough people call, the FBI may prioritize its investigation. Until they are caught and jailed, you can expect to hear from the callers at least once a week, each time using a different number and screen ID so that you can't block them. Sometimes they leave a message saying your credit card interest rate is "about to expire" (mine is good until 2015) or that they can lower it to 6 percent (mine is already at 6 percent). If you respond, of course, they ask for your card number. If you ask them to stop calling, they say they will remove you from their list (they don't have any list; they call at random through a computer program). If you call them back, you sometimes get a message that the number is no longer in service and sometimes a long hold after which they hang up on you.
- ChristeneKeep calling me, but do not talk when answered. Will not leave a message
