Got a call from this #.  I called back.  Got a message to press "0" if you wanted "do not call" status, which I did.  Less than an hour later, got another call.  This time I opted to speak to someone.  The jist was, if I was not receiving government assistance, I was eligible for a reduction on my JCP&L bill. "Randy" asked for info from my electric bill.  I replied, "Let's talk about you first, Randy.  What company do you work for?"  He hung up verifying to me that this was a scam or phishing call.

this one phone # 973-273-7843 keeps callling "if you do not want to be on our do not call list press  one now. It doesnt say who is callling or who the option to nnot call is who the hell is it im telling NOT to call.

Caller ID showed "Newark NJ" but no messsage was left.

This telemarketer/scammer seems to have acquired an entire block of telephone numbers.  I have already received calls from 973-273-7843, 7845, 7851, 7852, 7858, 7859, 7861, 7862, and 7865.  As fast as I can block a number with my carrier (Optimum Voice), I get a call from another number.

When I call from a "safe" cell phone, the message is always the same: "Hello, and thank you for calling.  If you would like to be placed on our 'do not call' list, press 1 now".

NEVER, EVER, respond to these prompts!!! It merely indicates that you have a valid phone number.  I tried that at one time, and have regretted it ever since.

For whatever good it does, I have reported each violation to the "Do Not Call" registry, and have also pointed out, each time, all the other numbers this scammer/telemarketer is using.

Tired of these callers, how do I make them stop!
Every day, three to four calls, 8am, right thru to dinner time.
I'd like their home number so that I can call them at those same times.

I have blocked this # and it's called me 4 times today alone - and Verizon FIOS lets the call through!! They are making money from these scammers - that's one of the reaons they've limited the # of calls you can block from 20 to 10. I started getting bombarded with scam calls and junk mail when I got FIOS. They deny they sell phone numbers or addresses, but they were caught red-handed - they had a typo on my order and ALL the junk mail I got had the same typo When I screamed at them suddenly the junk mail stopped.

Don't waste your time reporting scam calls to the FCC, report them to the president of Verizon:

I have been receiving calls from this number daily for months. Yesterday, I pressed 0 and got a woman and I started explaining my situation and how difficult it was to get repeated daily calls on my business line, she then told me to stop yelling at her f she was going to help me, I told her that I wasn't yelling just frustrated with her company. She then said she didn't ave to help me at all and threatened that "she could leave me on the list indefinitely for daily calls and didn't have to help me at all". I then asked the company name, she said it was Energy Place Assistance and hung up. I have tried to find out who they are. The phone number seems to be registered to a CTC Communications. When calling their number there is no answer.
30 minutes later the number 973-273-7845 called me, I hit 0 again and when the person came on, I asked the company name and they hung up.
If you have been harassed by this phone number and have more info, let's keep sharing. What this company is doing is illegal and needs to be stopped.

You're going to be left on 'the list' regardless. Scammers don't give a [***].

Got calls from some of the numbers on the block - annoying

Despite BLOCKING this number, Verizon lets the call through. How much are they being paid by these scammers?

This number from Newark, NJ calls every hour . . .they are harassing people.  How are these messages being handled?  Are they being forwarded to the FCC/  to the police>  to the FBI??  This is  criminal!!!!

Annoying calls.  I trace them with *57 to notify law enforcement.

This telemarketer has called me from 973-273-7843, 7851, and 7862.  I've blocked each #, but they have others to call me from.

The first time they called me I pressed the number to be removed, but that didn't work.  I was able to stop calls from another robo caller by leaving a VM, so I thought it might be worth a shot.

I am getting call  every day following # 973 273 7843/973 273 7845. Even i block the #. Still getting.

John on Dec 17th is right.  Block all numbers starting with 973-273-78**.  I'm porting my cell phone number to Google Voice to block these scam phone numbers.  Here's the info - http://support.google.com/voice/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1065667  Google Voice also gives you free text messaging and visual voicemail.  Verizon won't help, the FCC won't help, only Google will help stop these scam calls.

This number called me today.  I didn't answer; didn't return the call.  Glad I looked here to find out what I could.  Thanks.

These people allthe time, and never leave a message.

SIMPLE FIX -

Answer calls you dont this way:

"FRAUD DIVISION, Officer Jenkins, how may I help you"  They will 'poop' their pants and drop you in no time.  

If they are dumb enough to actually talk to you and didn't hear your opening line, have some fun let them give their 'speech' THEN resond, "Just so I get this straight, your name is xxxx, your number is xxxx, RIGHT?  I want to make sure I document this correctly on the FRAUD REPORT you are calling me about.  When they are all confused at this point, reintroduce yourself, Officer Jenkins, FRAUD DIVISION.

Normally I would never approve of impersonating a police officer, but in this case one scam deserves another.
