- Jeff| 3 repliesJust had a call from this number stating that they were at an accident with one of my relatives. They kept asking if I had brothers or sisters, or other family in my area. They couldn't tell me who it was and through questioning them it was a vehicle that doesn't exist in my family. Definitely spamers
- MikeThey will ask for $700 and claim that their brother is a crazy outlaw. Got my dad.
- MarieJust got a call from this number. It was a man telling me that there was a 3-car vehicle accident. His brother was one of the people in the accident that got hurt. His brother called him and told him that another male in the accident (the driver that caused the accident) gave my number and name before passing out and that he (the caller) just wanted to call and tell me. Then, he asked me whether I had a brother or son. I was like "You called me. You tell me." The caller could not identify the specific location of the accident (other than stating the general town associated with my area code) , the color of the car, or the names of the males in my life. After firing questions at him that he was unable to answer, I proceeded to state expletives at him and hang up the phone. Although he was a great actor, this is definitely a scam!!!!
- CopsDoNothing| 1 replyJust got a call from this number as well. He started with "THANK GOD you answered the phone. Theres been an accident with a man and women in the car. Do you have any loved ones in ___(mentioned the specific location)____? Are you married?" I was scarred for a moment, then realized I had NO family members in the area he was talking to... I simply bought my phone there 15 yrs back and kept the same phone number. I told him I had a wife and made up a name, He then "verified" that it was in fact her and asked for the type of car she drives so he could verify it was her. I said "didn't you JUST say there were two people in the car??" He said his brother who is a gang member was in the OTHER car, had a gun and he could not report it and needed my help... then asked for the car model again. I made one up, then he said "ARE YOU GOING TO HELP", I told him it was clearly bogus, so no, but asked how he planned to get money out of this. Then he kept repeating louder and louder "ARE YOU GOING TO HELP" (this went on a few iterations) and he hangs up.
NOW, what REALLY angers me: I call the police, first in the area that he said the accident happened in, then the police departments with the area code "978". Both of them told me there is nothing they can do since he will probably through the phone away in less than 3hrs. I told them, this JUST happened, can't you just get the location?? They said no, its no use, he will probably just throw the phone away. I simply put the number in google, get to this page and find that he has been using the SAME NUMBER SINCE YESTERDAY (possibly longer). My math isn't good, but pretty sure a day is more than 3 hrs and they would have had PLENTY of time to find him as well as PLENTY of calls to triangulate. I did a simple FREE reverse lookup on the number and can see ALL of his past IP addresses. This didn't take a complicated task force... simply 3 mins and an internet connection. What if we treated all crimes this way? Just don't look for murderers cause they are probably too far by now. They will chase me down going 6 mph over the speed limit but wont flinch for for terrorizing calls mixed with robbery. WTH. - Annoyed| 7 repliesThis number just called my phone as well and I let it go to voicemail. No voicemail was left.
I live in Central Florida, so I'm wondering if this person is targeting a certain area or purchased a list to call randomly. - MJG replies to Annoyed| 2 repliesIt seems, looking at the complaints on other numbers , that Hispanic names are especially called. There is also an variation of "I'm coming to the airport so I will need a ride".
- CopsDoNothing replies to MJG| 1 replyI have a far from hispanic name so it may be the fact its orlando (high hispanic population) but I am SURE he did not know my name or anything about me by the call. Do you remember if you told him your name first?
- CopsDoNothing replies to Annoyed| 3 repliesThat is an interesting theory. Maybe we should post our carriers? I have verizon. (DONT post your numbers!!)
- MJG replies to CopsDoNothingI wasn't called. There are plenty of complaints on 800 notes about this. There's a good chance it was a cold call and he was hoping you would fall for it. A similar scam is, "Grandma, I'm in jail and need money for a lawyer".
- ugh replies to CopsDoNothing| 1 replyi just received the same call and looked up the phone number to find this. I'm in the central florida area with verizon as my carrier
- kb replies to ughI just got the same call stating htere has been an accident and do I have a son or sister...
- Annoying wake up call today| 2 repliesThese stupid idiots called me too This morning at 9am!!saying my father had been in the accident and the thing about his brother having a gun etc. He was asking for $900. I told him i have 10cents to my name and he actually went ahead and asked me if my mother had money and for me to give him her number I was like hell no and hung up. I have Metro Pcs.
- Caller: SCAM ALERT
- CopsDoNothing replies to Annoying wake up call today| 1 replyThats horrible. Glad you didn't fall for it and thanks for sharing your carrier. Looks like its not carrier related now.
- jcNever asked me for money but was very convincing and sounded like a thug. Scared me to death because I thought my son's life was in danger. After I called 911, I called my son and it went straight to voice mail. I was panicked at that point. My son later called me back and I was relieved. If I am ever lucky enough to see these losers on the street, then I will kick the crap out of them! Ruthless, heartless and there's a special place in hell just for these criminals.
- Why replies to CopsDoNothingI just got a call from this number as well.
I used to live in Orlando and use AT&T (used to have Verizon) - not right replies to CopsDoNothingmy friend just called me all upset, cause someone from the number 9782048051 and told her that her son had been in a bad accident and ask him to call her then he just hung up. She was so upset and I looked up the police dept in lawrence Ma and gave her the number. When she called, they said it was a scam and not to worry. When she told me that, i was so mad. Someone which meaning the authorities need to get control of this. They could cause a heart attack or something bad. They will be judged in the end (GOD) We live in orlando Fla
- Cops DO something replies to CopsDoNothingUmm, girl here had the SAME EXACT call. Its an OBVIOUS scam. Police have better things to do than look for a guy in his basement thats randomly calling people, with a dumb story, and they fall for it. You were a victim of any crime, nothing happened. No money was taken from you, stop biatching! Oh and police wrote a report about it.
- Cory| 1 replySame happened to us in colorado ! Got a call from a Hispanic make saying family had been in accident .. But wouldn't say who. When you call it back no one answers! Someone needs to send that [***] a present ! Heard he's got a few people for money! Damn US anymore
- lisachrystine replies to CoryI'm in Colorado, too. Just got the same call. Freaked me out, but the guy couldn't identify any particular type of car or specific location. Kept asking me who I knew that drives. When I questioned him further, he hung up on me.
- pissed off!| 1 reply2:26 today here in Colorado I received a call from a Hispanic speaking man questioning me. Then said my brother had been in a car accident and the other party involved is a gang member and doesn't deal with car insurance so my brother life was in danger and if I wanted to save him I need to pay. Told me not to call the cops. Ask me if I was going to pay. I told my mom to call my brother and the Hispanic hung up. Try to call back no answer. I called the cops they came to my house. They traced the number the phone was purchased in Mass. But is being used in Canada. Because these scams are being ran out of the U.S. the police can't do anything. I have verizon . And I am not Hispanic. So I don't think he is targeting anyone specific. But he is using the same number.I was terrified till I realized my brother would not be where this guy said he was then I was just pissed off. I lost a brother 12 years ago to a car accident so this guy is [***] with peoples emotions!
