Some Indian man calling from Lowell, MA claimed he was from Washington DC U.S. Treasury. He said his name was "Steve Smith." The voicemail was an automated call saying I had been involved in a national offense. Also said "help us help you." The Indian guy on the phone needed my name and demanded my address and then got frustrated when I refused to provide him with that information. I've committed no crimes, am a student, and live all the way in CA. I know these are not official DC representatives, but I'm concerned with these people having my number & name and making big threats and false accusations.

I called the first one and they asked me to verify my name and number.  So like them I provided bogus information.  The first number put me on hold and 10 seconds later the second number was calling me at the same time.  So I hung up and called the second one from a different phone.  These people are a total joke.  I used a robot number that responds with any sound.  He was speaking to no one for about 10 minutes threatening to track me down.  He said the IRS will be at my door in 30 minutes and requested that I end the call.  He even used foul language out of frustration... once I was done using the robot responder I got on the line and asked why he is doing this to people.  I told him that I only did this because the longer I kept him busy the less time he had to take someone's hard earned money.

For those who are tired of these scams use the following number to conference in an automatic robot answering service  214-666-4321 this will respond in an actual human voice to any sound on the other end of the line keeping the scammer busy while you sit back and laugh.

I also got a call saying I was involved in a Federal Offense. It is illegal for someone to threaten you with legal action so i knew it had to be fishy.

Call to demand immediate payment, nor will we call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill..

Demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.

Require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card.

Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.

Threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.

I just got the same one. Keeping the message and going to report to the ACTUAL IRS.

I just got a voicemail from this # asking me to call them to "help us help you." What a joke. Scam!

I received a voicemail message from them saying help us help you they can kiss my rump they are not getting anything from me and if they do threaten me I do have a answer for that one also

Also got the same message this morning on my cell phone. I think that's a federal offense, no? Very hard to understand the person that was talking and they repeated the phone number twice but left a digit off both times. The full number was on the caller ID.

Got a call from this number saying I was involved in a US Treasury offense and facing federal prosecution and to call them back so they could help me.  Very annoying.  I'm going to report them.  n

Received a recorded message from the us treasury. THis is a scam.

I received the same automated voicemail from this telephone number, and I am a college student in CA as well, though I am also self employed as a makeup artist.  I have never committed any crimes either, but I must say the voicemail message was very threatening.  So much so, that I immediately contacted my accountant who verified that there would be no reason for the Washington DC U.S. Treasury to contact me.  Subsequently, I am going to report this phone number to the Dept. of Treasury and urge anyone else being harassed by these people to do the same.  Be safe out there.

I just got a call from this number and they left a message saying the exact same thing everyone has posted about this number! Honestly when I listened to it, it scared me at first but when I listened to the entire thing I realized I don't owe anything and have not done anything wrong. I knew it was a scam. They didn't say a name of whom they were trying to reach, also it is illegal to leave such a detailed message without consent! When they left their phone number to return their call... TWICE! The number they left me to call back had digits missing?!!!! Both times!!? This is the first time I have ever received this phone call and the number was on my caller I. D. I feel so bad for the gullible and older people who will be easily scammed by these ASSHATS!!!  I pray nobody falls for this. This is ridiculous and NEEDS TO BE STOPPED AND ENDED! but of course they will ALWAYS find ways and wiggle and worm their way around it. Nothing but snakes and asshats!

Also all our comments are only from 2 days ago up until today. This must be a new scam and just started?

I got a call that didnt answer but I suspect that he was tracing to see if the number was being used and or trying to gain access to your phone through a call and somehow my snapchat opened as well...strange ?

similar call on cell phone.  Sounded somewhat official.  Thanks for site and info.  out of country scammers I would hope.
